I hope you can get more, and closer pictures!!! I never get the good birds at our feeder!!! Not even a jay or cardinal or something colorful. Just the brown chickadee types. Though I admit if an owl perched out there my cat might have a coronary instead of getting excited and trying to leap at the window to try and ''catch'' them.

Oooh Scarletta...how cool! Love the garden area. Is that bamboo part of your "THE NEIGHBORS????"

I can sort of "smell you neighbors"...can you still? Funny the things we remember. Are the relations any better? Think you made them some cookies or something didnt' you?

Get us more Owls. That is cool.

ETA...on a second peak that may not be bamboo afterall...?

Ah neat! Yay, I am so happy you can post pics. You have a lovely yard, Scarleta!

Thanks FG: 1st its my lack of experience with digital and posting then of course the owl went away as I tried to get closer.
Hope more birds come to your yard just keep the cats away and the seeds topped up..
Must say DKS: your memory keeps surprising me : the compost and the other problems are on the other side...The relations did not deteriorate and they still trust me with their keys.....Nope made no cookies for them, but your memory serves you right it was one of my suggestions here on the board to a question on how to deal...
when the owl comes back I shall be more ready...will keep posting now that I finally got my 1st one...
Yes you got it right its H bamboo you see..
Thanks Skippy: Now not only the owl visited , but I also posted my 1st pic here...Must celebrate great occasion..
I love my yard also Skipp, lots of work and lots of fun and the owl that''s uncommon...I was full of joy and called everyone and of course they wanted pics, so I had no choice, but the owl did not allow me to come closer...thanks little things like this make me so happy. Its a pleasure to be able to share it here. Thanks for listening....

Aww, scarleta! Congratulations! That''s just awesome!

We just got our first hummingbird after tearing out and just starting to replace everything in my FI''s backyard, all with hummingbird-friendly plants...FI was like a little kid when he saw the little guy suckling at the honeysuckle! It was the cutest thing ever!

I hope you get more pictures of your resident owl...they are so cool!

Thanks H: about hummingbirds I make a nectar for them when there is nothing out there for them. You can get one that attaches to your window so you see them close.HDepot has them..Enjoy..

That is one beautiful yard. I love how everything is laid out. Oh, and a lovely owl too. I hope it comes back because I want a closer look.

Uhm, what are you putting in your bird feeder? Mice?

JK! That''s awesome though. We sometimes get a beautiful hawk that comes and sits on the high back fence in our yard (top of a hill). We use niger seed to attract the smaller birds and get a whole bunch of goldfinches during the summer.

Right now we are attracting a squirrel, on purpose. We put peanuts on our porch rail out front today and watched as he cleverly and quickly found them and then took each one off to a different place to bury it or hide it. It was kind of hilarious.

You''re welcome scarleta!

May I ask what you put in your feeders? I bought FI a gorgeous blown glass one for his birthday, which he actually did finally put outside of his window, but we still need to figure out the right mix to fill it with.

Thanks!

many thanks to everyone; H this is how to make the mix for hummingbirds: very important to change the solution often depending on weather I do it weekly in winter and twice weekly in summer. My friend had a huge glass container she said bought it large enough to last long time.No bird came to her feeder it ferments. Also clean it well with hot water before you refill.I had a big one and it got broken by other birds trying to sit on it.So now I have inexpensive one ( I have 2 so I can wash one and have it ready.
Boil 1 cup water and add 1/4 or 1/3 cup of sugar and mix well.Cool it and you have the mix.Good luck they will enjoy this mix..

Thanks, scarleta! I guess I''d better wait to fill that up until I''m there to change it out each week...I know FI will not do it! Well, at least it looks pretty for now! I appreciate the help!
