Hi to all
Does anybody know where I could manage to find an over blue diamond ?
I am looking for a stone that would turn bluish milky / hazy in sunlight due to very strong fluorescence, not because of fractures or structure.
I am not searching a high quality stone colorwise or puritywise. I am rather after a gemological curiosity.
I have been looking for such a stone for some months and have asked several wholesale diamond sellers in Paris, without success. Here this type of stone seems rather to be a rare bird, not really desirable !
Thanks for your valuable help !

Hi Gouloute,

I would contact Paul Slegers at www.craftedbyinfinity.com to see what he can suggest. Paul has contacts in Antwerp and all over the world, he might be able to point you in the right direction. Also try Wink at www.highperformancediamonds.com Wink might be able to come up with the goods!

Alternatively, Jon at www.goodoldgold.com and Brian at www.briangavindiamonds.com might be able to help, also Oldminer ( Dave Atlas), Dave has such a stone of his own which is set in a ring, not sure if he still has it. http://datlas.com/

I hope the above proves useful and gives you some places to start, good luck with your project! It might be easier if you aren't particular about the shape of the stone etc if you are a collector but I am sure you will find your diamond.

Thanks Lorelei for this instant valuable help !
Actually, this contact in Antwerp might be the easiest thing for me, since Antwerp is within easy reach from Paris.
But I'll try the other sources as well.

I looked hard for over a year to find my sample of one of these. I finally found it at a pawn shop that knew I was looking and set it aside for me. They're a lot rarer than people think.

You are most welcome, definitely try Paul first in that case, if he doesn't know of such a stone, it's a fair bet he might know of someone that might! Also try as you are in Europe, Rob van Beurden at www.fortrez.com

Sure. Just order any diamond from the internet (according to some old-school jewelers) ;)

RE Paul: The entire Antwerp district is on holiday until end-August. Today is also Paul's birthday, so he's even more away from diamond-work, although he may be fluorescing a bit with family and friends.

Feel free to use the contact email on the website to reach us anytime, but FYI Antwerp-action is at a standstill for the next few weeks.

Good to know Neil and useful to know also that it might take some time to source such a stone, pawn shop is a great suggestion!

I can sure wait until september, no problem about that. I've been waiting for several months already !

As for pawn shops, we don't have so many here. Antique or second hand jewelers, yes. But most of regular jewelers I've asked didn't even know what I was talking about. I've been proposed milky diamonds which were milky only because they were full of cracks.

This is why I prefer to turn towards diamond traders !

Neil...any pics of this stone?

Yes, I would love to see it !

I think I have found the picture of Dave Atlas's. The exact thing I am looking for ! (well maybe a little less big... maybe this one is out of my financial range).

Give Dave a call gouloute or email him, he's a great guy and he might be able to point you in the right direction.

I'll certainly email him, if I give a phone call from Paris my diamond budget might be swallowed into the call... :)
Thanks again Lorelei for all these great tips.

You are most welcome, please keep us posted with any developments! :wavey:

The diamond from that thread has been sold.

As Gypsy suggests - calling is always an option.

One can also use the “More Search Options” feature on our diamond search website to include Very Strong Fluorescence.

Fun search! We so often hear over-blue or milky warnings, so interesting that it's such a challenge to find one. I can't wait to see some photos.

Thanks again Lorelei for all these great tips.

There are services like FreeCall and Skype that let you make calls very affordably. Skype is completely free if the receiver also uses Skype and I think FreeCall cost to call Belgium from the US cost me less than 2 cents per minute last time I paid $10 into the system a couple of years ago. I only use it a few times per year, but still have most of my $10 left too...

Wink

Good advice Wink, I'll try that. Thanks.
