Oval vs Radiant

The stone shape I love seems to change from week to week. First I wanted Princess, then I wanted RB, last week it was oval, and this week I seem to be favoring the radiant cut. My BF is just grateful I''m not that fickle when it comes to men!

I''ve checked out loose stones in all the shapes except radiant (that may be on this weekend''s "to do" list).

Between a well-cut oval and a well-cut radiant (with the other three C''s being the same), would one lend itself to sparkling better than the other, or would the amount of fire/brilliance/scintillation be about the same? Also, when both cut to ideal specs, would one face-up larger than the other?

Generally, an oval could look larger than a radiant, but there could be variables to this, so concentrate on the diameter measurements of the diamonds. Performance or sparkle, you want to try to get the best cut you can, I have heard a well cut oval would be the ' sparkliest' out of the fancy shapes due to the faceting, but a well cut radiant may show a different personality yet still be beautiful. Yet these are only assumptions and to get a definitive answer you need to be comparing actual diamonds. I would really try to make time to view some radiants in person, so you have a good idea of which shape appeals to you.

Also when considering ovals, consider the shape also as some are longer and thinner, others shorter and fatter.

I''ve had an oval now for 2 years and love it. My .94ct looked huge next to my SIL''s 1ct round!

Wow Snicks, how is one to help decide when only you know what looks best on your hand (at least today!!)

Ovals can look bigger, fancy cuts like ovals and rads have shaping parameters as L said, long/skinny, short/fat, medium build.

If your shape tastes are that erratic then maybe you should concentrate on what you want the ring to look like first and then I''ll be a particular shape will be more condusive to the overall look!

The sad thing is that I have a different ring style in mind for each shape!

I tried telling my BF that it would just be easier if he''d just get me a few different e-rings that I could switch out depending on my mood that day!

He didn''t thing that was such a swell idea.

Excuse the threadjack but MustangGal, I looked up the thread with your original ering and the story behind it, but the pictures of your oval didn''t show up. Do you mind posting them again? Or leading me to another thread with some shots?
