My fiancee and I actually got engaged on Valentines Day this year and he gave me a beautiful platinum ring with a princess cut center stones and baguettes and round diamonds on the sides. Unfortunately, because of stupidity on my part, I lost it in the ocean at Seaside Florida after watching a fellow sunbather lose a TWENTY CARAT TENNIS BRACELET (you''d think I would have thought to not wear my jewelry on the beach after seeing that). Anyways- We have now bought a setting to replace it that is an absolutely stunning tacori style ring with two baguettes on the sides. Now I am struggling with whether to buy an oval or emerald cut diamond for the center stone. I have found two beautiful diamonds, both are very good cuts, E, VS2. The Oval cut is 1.12 carats and the emerald cut is 1.02 carats. I wanted to know if the market value for the two cuts varies widely (if that makes sense) and if any one has suggestions on which I should choose from an investment standpoint (I guess I am thinking long term. Also, If I were to upgrade in the future would I have to upgrade to the same shape or could choose a different one. Thanks for your responses!

I think they are two totally different animals. Of the two Id prefer the Oval for the sparkle factor. But since there are baguettes Id say that the Emerald would look smashing. Make sure the Emerald is eyeclean if its VS2 because its easier to see imperfections in an Emerald.
