I know this is probably being fickle, but, as I said in an earlier post, I purchased a 3.01 G-VS2 Oval Diamond. The diamond is very pretty, however, I do notice the yellow in the color in certain lights. Now, I have an opportunity to purchase another Oval with the following specs. The jeweler is willing to buy back the 3.01 carat as I got it at a very good price. My question is: how do the following two compare against each other?

Carat: 3.5 Carat: 3.01
Color: E Color: G
Clarity: SI1 Clarity: VS2
Culet: None Culet: V (very large?)
Girdle: Thin to Thick Girdle: Medium to X-Thick
Polish: VG Polish: G
Symmetry: G Symmetry: G
Cut: VG Cut: G
Floures: Faint Floures: None
Meas: 10.85 x 7.74 c 5.23 Meas: 12.5 x 8.27 x 5.14
Depth: 67.6% Depth: 61.8
Table: 56% Table: 58%
Crown Height: 18% Crown Ht.: ??

Sorry for taking so much of everyone''s time, but would appreciate your advice once again.

I don''t think you should trade your 3.01 carat for the 3.5 carat diamond. If the specs are correct for each diamond, the 3.5 carat is actually smaller than the 3.01. I wouldn''t pay more for a smaller diamond especially since the carat weight is higher.

Ditto for not the 3.5cts being smaller in size (=surface, not weight, of course).

But... what is going on with the 3.01 piece? "very large'' cult and the wavering girdle (it varies as much as feasible - which I think needs an explanation) - is it an old cut or what? Sounds interesting, not bad. Have you seen this? It is relatively large even for the three carats which is a good thing, of course. The numbers available do not tell me what this diamond looks like. Have you seen it? Any chance to post pictures? Any chance to get some cut quality stats that could be talked about?

Omigosh - the stats are reversed for the two diamonds. I''m pretty sure I can see the 3.5 ct on request. I really am happy with my 3.01 but would hate to have a nicer one slip by.

Correct stats:

Carat: 3.01 Carat: 3.5
Color: G Color: E
Clarity: VS2 Clarity: SI1
Culet: None Culet: V
Girdle: Thin to Thick Girdle: Medium to X-Thick
Polish: VG Polish: G
Symmetry: G Symmetry: G
Cut: VG Cut: G
Depth: 67.6% Depth: 61.8%
Table: 56% Table: 58%
Crown Ht: 18% Crown Ht: ???
Floures: Faint Floures: N
Meas: 10.85 x 7.74 x 5.23 Meas: 12.50 x 8.27 x 5.14

Sorry for the confusion.

Thx.

I'm pretty sure I can see the 3.5 ct on request.

IMO, the only way not to let this slip by is to take a look. If you can call it in, do it!

Correct stats:

Carat: 3.5

Color: E light and the majority of indoor lighting is tinted, only too little to be noticed on anything else but diamonds (unless you know of another item where colorless-ness is such a life and death issue!). It would be greta to see these side by side and decide if it is the color grade or the lighting that makes you call G tinted. As much as I know, few notice and even fewer guys mind the actual look of the grade. Of course, I cannot know if you are one

Perhaps not much changed compared to my former post. I hope you get to see this and post about it too

This should have been attached to the last post...
