Oval Rose Cuts

I bought a 1.72ctw parcel of oval cut rose cuts from JbEG, and last weekend I got a chance to stop in to Single Stone to discuss a project. Heather and Ari showed me their amazing bands, and helped me figure out what would work best with the stones. They are slightly graduated, so I was thinking of either doing something kind of more 'organic', with the stones turned at slight angles and slightly mismatchy OECs in between. Or Ari suggested balancing the stones with larger or smaller OECs in between, and setting the ovals E-W which I love. I think I will add 4-6 OECs--one in between each rose cut, and possibly 2 on the outside. Ari suggested ten pointers, which will give me a 3/4 eternity, or I could do 2 in between each rose for a full eternity, perhaps?

Of course I am having a hard time uploading, but here are a couple shots, and a link to the inspiration--imagine the ovals in the place of the french-cut baguettes.

I LOVE rose cuts! Because of the high points on the tops instead of flat tables I would really be scared of an eternity with these, especially because they're fairly large, they're just asking to be banged up that way. I would do a 3/4 eternity w/o a doubt!

I cant wait to see how this one turns out! Does SS do cads? Please post when you get them!

It's going to be a lovely (and unique!) ring. Looking forward to its completion!

I adore their rose cuts and can't wait to see how your ring turns out!

Good question... I'm not sure if they do CADs. Bad Pricescoper! Shame on me! All I know is that I love their work!

Ari also let me know that my ering is rhodium-plated, when I had requested that it not be plated. The jeweler that made my ering (Alek Vartan) is 2 floors up from SS, and he doesn't work in antique stones. FH wanted to use Vatran because his family friends have been going to him for years, so he trusted him.

We went to Vartan's on Saturday to get sizing beads on my ring (it slipped off my finger in the pool!) and I asked to stop in to SS while we were there. DF had been really anti-antique stones, but of course once he got a look at SS's stuff he was impressed by their work and is even talking about getting his ring made there. Ugh, dudes!!

Good call--I guess I don't really *need* a full eternity anyway. I mean, I don't spend hours waving like a beauty queen or royalty, no one will notice if I have sparkle on the inside of my finger anyway :wavey: :wink2:

Heather suggested engraving and milgrain that matches my ering on the band.

Ohh I am SO jealous!!!

I have been craving rose cuts like nothing else lately    I can't wait to see how this turns out, SS's work so far has been incredible :appl:

Ditto this, I'd go for the 3/4 eternity.

Since I know no one around here is opposed to photos, I was able to get a couple more uploaded:

Here is an image of the inspiration--just imagine the ovals in place of the french-cut baguettes:
