Hi everyone!

I have the first draft of a ring I am designing. It is a simple cathedral ring, micropave tapered band. With an oval center. The oval pictured in the CAD is not the oval I plan to get... I've learned from here that I need to call Good old gold :)

I am also planning on adding 3 row micro pave just to the bridge of the ring for some extra bling for me to see. Please let me know your thoughts! I really appreciate any help.

Buy stone first, then worry about CAD.

Looks good though.
Ovals are not standard sizes by carat weight. Any jeweler that doesn't tell you that is an idiot.
You have to buy the stone first, then worry about settings.

Thank you Gypsy, I was hoping you would reply after being a lurker for so long! But yes we are not finalizing the CAD until the diamond is purchased. I just was impatient and wanted to see a rough idea of my vision.

I have not reached out to good old gold, I will be soon, but do you happen to know the rough time that they are able to source diamonds?

Thanks!

No, I'm sorry I do not know that information. It is best to call them and ask. I'd say give it, total time from calling to buying a month max.

The CAD looks nice though. I think. Who are you working with?

Hi- usually once you speak to GOG and tell them desired specs, for most stones, they arrive within 3-7 business days for you to look at. They will either make you a video or you can go see them in person once they arrive there. They were great to work with on finding exactly the stone I wanted. that was the easiest part of the process.

Always stone first, then setting because it is easier to work around a diamond then trying to get a diamond to fit a setting.

Oh wow that's quick! Great to know, thank you!

Gypsy - I am working with J. Albert Johnson in Fairfield, CT. They are an independent jewel in the area that we were told was trust-worthy. Glad to hear that the CAD is up to standards as well. I am new to this process and don't really know what is considered good. Glad to have help here :)
