Hey all! I’m new here and I figured what better place to get advice than somewhere like this!

Here’s my dilemma...I am trying to design a custom ring right now. A couple things are certain which are it will be a simple halo setting with a 2ct main center oval stone. However my big dilemma is that my better half really wants the center stone to stand out And does not want the halo to “blend” in with the center stone to where the center stone gets lost, but rather compliment it. Every halo seems to engulf the center stone rather than compliment it (which don’t get me wrong, is great if you’re trying to get a smaller stone to look bigger)

I’ve attached a picture of a look she loves where you can clearly distinguish the halo or from the main stone.

I can’t seem to get a clear answer from any jeweler we have visited as to if this is possible and/or how to make it happen. I’m not sure if it has to do with settings, spacing, size of halo stones etc?

Any help would be extremelyyyyyy appreciated!

I tried on a Stuller setting at my local jeweler that looks exactly like that. It was gorgeous. I considered getting it but then decided against a halo. I liked it because it sat low on the hand, which I prefer. My previous halo did exactly what you're talking about: it swallowed the diamond. I replaced the diamond with a sapphire and it looks great. You might also contact David Klass about a setting.

All of the above.
Congratulations! And kudos to you for wanting to do what your SO likes. FWIW, no local-to-me jeweler can do the setting very well, that you posted. That doesn't relate well to where you live, just do your research in their past projects.

I'm not familiar with the Stuller ring you referenced, but it would be a great option to not having to go custom if OP's oval stone's outline matches closely to what stuller made it for.

Exactly. Having set an oval into a custom halo, then not really loving it, it was nice to be able to try this setting on in the store. Jewelers who sell Stuller usually have this setting or one like it in stock so it can be viewed before purchase.
I still wouldn't rule out David Klass though to at least get an estimate and compare pricing with Stuller. His halos are right on.
