Hi Everyone

)
My boyfriend and I have been working with a trusted jelwer that his family has bought from for years, to create an engagement ring. After looking at a variety of diamonds over the past few months, we finally found one that really embodied everything we are looking for. I''ve relied on the great info. in the forums throughout this process to help us make the most informed choice and just wanted to run the stone info. by all of you and the price just to feel an extra sense of security. Hope you guys don''t mind!

The stone:
Oval 1.76 carat diamond
GIA Certified
Cut: very good
Polish: very good
Symatry: very good
Flor: medium blue
Color: I
Clarity: VS1
Culet: none
Girdle:medium-thick (facetted)
Cost:$8,500

General info. on the diamond:
*I don''t have the dimmensions but do recall that it is 9mm in length. The stone is a little on the shallow side, not paper thin, but not as deep as it could ideally be. However it has a fantastic spread on it, lots of finger coverage, absolutely NO bowtie and for a stone on the shallower side, had beautiful light return. It just danced!! Looked at it under a variety of lighting, even took it outside lol Didn''t look yellowy and did not appear to loose the light. It has that "crushed ice" type cut, which I happen to be a big fan of. I was initially going for a 2 carat but was having to compromise to remain in budget on the clarity. When we decided to go down slightly in size, our clarity greatly improved and the jewler was able to find this stone that had a larger feel with the spread. It will be going into a white gold setting with a subtle split shank with micropave and will also have a delicate micropave halo around it. Would you guys be able to tell me if you feel the price sounds about right? I think it sounds good but all of you have considerably more insight and I trust all of your feedback. Thanks a bunch!

It is in the competitive range for prices of stones of this size and colour. Really depends on the width of the stone the greater the width the more expensive the stone should be.

If you love this one, have compared with others and this one stands out then thats the main thing. The price looks fine from a store jeweller - what I would suggest is ask if you can view it in plain daylight to see how it holds up, that will give you a better idea of how it will look in everyday wearing conditions. Medium blue fluorescence is a nice addition to an I colour also IMO.

Thanks for the advice

) I will email the jewler to get the exact dimensions to post on here. the width is not thin..but again I''d like to be able to post it to get everyones full feedback. As for the light return, I did look at the stone in the sunlight and it looks sensational! Thanks for the impt..any additional feedback is much appreciated

The numbers needed are the depth, table, girdle thickness, crown height if you can get it and the diameter in MM. Although this only gives a chalk outline of the stone, it will give more of an idea.

ok the dimensions of the stone are:
9.63mm
7.11mm
3.69mm

Table is 63%
depth is 51.9%

I can get a little more info. tomorrow. I was just trying to get the gist in between meetings with a quick phone call. Again I know it is a little shallow, but it really does reflect the light well! Thanks everyone!!!! You all "Rock" lol

*girdle is medium to thick and the crown height I didn''t get, but will ask for tomorrow. It is in no way a flat stone though. Thanks agineveryone!

It is shallow depthed which according to most of the experts here isn''t ideal and the table is large in proportion to it but if you like the diamond and have compared it to other ovals then that is in its favour. I would say check it out away from the store lights to make sure it still appeals to you. The crown height would be good to know but from this proportion set it probably won''t be very high, but if you can get it that would be useful.

no problem..I will get that info for you tomorrow. Thank you so much again for your help. Does 8500 sound about right for the stone? it did to me, but I wanted some reassurance...Biggest purchase we ever made ya know? ..Thanks!!

Most welcome and I understand! I will do a price check for you to see if I can find the prices of similar. I did a search for you, not many out there similar but from what was there I would estimate the price is not unreasonable from a brick and mortar store from the info we have. As you know it is shallow and the table large in comparison, so from what I can tell the proportions aren't the greatest. However if you love it and you prefer it above all others you have seen then it is worth consideration - I won't try to steer you away from it if you are in love with it, just check out others to make sure it is really what you want and also look at it away from any store lights to make sure you will be happy with it in everyday wearing conditions.

Thanks Lorelei & Chunk!

For some reason the gia report does show the crown or pavilion measurements. I did however locate the cert. online and then located a site that is also selling the diamond. Here is a link to the info.

http://www.brilliance.com/diamonds/search/ViewDetails.aspx?id=60175&styleID=&SN=BSN0000748753

Table: 63%
Depth 51.9%
Girdle: medium to very thick
measurements are: 9.63x7.11x3.69mm
Length to width is 1.35:1
Culet:none
1.73 carats
very good polish,symmetry & make
vs1 I color

$8,500 sound about right?
