I''ve been looking @ oval diamond with the following stats. Will you please give me your opinion on the quality of the cut.
8.73 x 7.16 x 4.90
Depth, 68.4%
Table 64%
Crown 14%
Pav. Depth 46%
Color F
Clarity VS2

Thanks!!

for what''s it''s worth, i also have been looking at ovals... i found a great "cheat sheet" that i look at when i want to compare... you can find it at www.gemappraisers.com/chrt2.htm

they list how each oval would fall into each cut class

for example a cut class 1A would have the following dimensions

table 57-60%
crown 13-14.5%
depth 59-63%

hope that helps.

Total newbie question, but how do you get the crown %? I''ve seen the same diamond on usacerteddiamonds.com and dirt cheap, but neither have crown info.

You need to contact one of these companies and ask for a sarin report and this will give you all the numbers.

And if you do, you might as well ask for the complete 3D Sarin scan - that would allow to "reconstruct" the diamond and analyze cut quality to a tee.

Now, some sellers already provide a TON of data with their diamonds. Round brilliants usually get the most attention, but some ovals get counted as well. For example, this

The optics look superb... but this stone is a bit smaller than your 2+ carat piece. How is the price ?

There are very few ovals with pictures and enough technical details to judge quality remotely - at least among the websites I know of. Among these, one 2 carat F Si1 matches the size of your diamond and looks rather tempting with the elegant shape (IMO), although it may not be quite as bright (by a thred of difference, not a mile) as the one in the pictured above. At 7 X 11mm this one is cut rather large for its weight which can only be a good thing.

Hope some of the 0.2 worth helps
