Hello everyone! This is my first post on here. I am choosing my own engagement ring and really like ovals among some other shapes as well such as radiants, marquise and OEC's.

I found a pretty nice oval ( I think) but I wanted to know what everyone on here thinks since I hear you guys can spot a sparkler when you see one.

=)

How does it look? What should I look for in an oval. Bow tie? Clarity? How can I tell if the cut is good, etc.

Anyone?? :geek:

I don't know enough about ovals to really offer much, but it looks pretty to me with minimal bowtie which I think is good. Hopefully someone else with more oval knowledge will chime in. Have you asked a gemologist at JA to review it and give opinions? I would also check out Good Old Gold's videos... http://www.goodoldgold.com/Diamond_Videos/ and do a search for oval because they will have some good info

Thank you so much I love their videos... I just checked out some oval ones :naughty:

Make sure you try on an oval. I was convinced that was what I wanted but after trying on one or two, I realized ovals weren't for me.

Yes I have tried one on thank you. I am very picky about their shape and I prefer a puffier oval vs. longer.

I think you might as well pick two more for JA to look at while you're at it.

"Rovals" (puffier ovals) rule!

This one stood out to me the most.. But I saw a few others I liked as well.

Agreed!!!! :sun:

No, it's just that it is so hard to choose ovals by pictures, a gemologist evaluation is better.

If you only pick one, they can pretty much only say pass/fail. If you give them options, they might be able to say all three pass, but one or two is a little better than the others.

Ahh that makes perfect sense.

**UPDATE**

So I got 3 oval stones checked through JA. I am most in love with diamond#2. It is the 2nd best performer next to diamond#1. Here are the aset images. I won't be posting diamond#3 because the gemologist said it was the worst performer and had the most visible bow tie. Should I really be worried diamond#2 won't perform well? Both of these stones are E color SI1 and came back eye clean.

If I wasn't comparing it to diamond#1, would that make #2 not so great? Or would it still be a nice diamond? I have a ring wrap I want to match it with and the measurements of diamond#2 are better for it. If I get diamond #1 the wrap will be too wide for the stone.

Do you have the links to the stones? My concern is the facet pattern on diamond two won't promise good light return....Diamond one has the better pattern hence the better aset...BUT if #1 was that E SI1 stone that you initially posted, I'd be concerned with the feather on the girdle which may cause some structural issues (I'd double check with JA's gemologist to be sure it won't be an issue).

**Edit to add, that if I hadn't seen the aset for diamond one, and just saw the one for diamond 2, then I would pass on it.
