New to the forum and you guys have been a huge help for me. I have been looking for an oval diamond and found one that checks off all my criteria. I just wanted other opinions on the bowtie. I have uploaded a couple of videos to youtube and would love if anyone could chime in with their thoughts....

Looks like it has a pretty strong black line (bow-tie)going through it. The rest of the stone looks decent. How do you feel about
the bow-tie?

There are certain things I dont mind so much with bow-ties. I'm fairly tolerable with the following conditions:
-the bow-tie reflects mostly white (light); a skinny black arrow when looking on it straight down is ok with me.
-the bow-tie is not too wide and the faceting pattern up to it is nice and uniform

Most other people dont want to see a bow-tie AT ALL. There are certain cuts for ovals that usually dont show a bow-tie.
I'll post some examples in a minute.

I don't mind some bow tie either but I am still unsure of how much is "acceptable" or if this is such a thing.

I would say if its not real prevalent and you only see it when you look straight down on it then it might be ok. If you see it a lot or
all the time then its not good (see a dark area a lot of the time).

Do you have a close up picture of the stone you can post? Its so hard to tell from a video taken at a distance.

Most stones that sparkle will look good at a distance but your Girlfriend will be looking at it a lot closer.

Thank you so much for the advise! Here is a pic, hopefully it helps

Unfortunately, that is a pretty strong bow-tie :( .

The bow-tie is showing up mostly black (a nice bow-tie would be reflecting light and be showing white).
The faceting pattern goes from pinpoint flashes to very big facets in the bow-tie area (not a nice smooth transition).

The outer shape of the stone is lovely though.

Appreciate the help....I thought the same thing and needed a third party opinion. The search for an oval is exhausting and now the struggle continues...

Have you called Good Old Gold?

Give them a ring and see if they might be able to deal with the 'struggle' part and you can just deal with the 'choosing your favorite' part.

They are able to source these fancy shapes in a variety of ways that we, as consumers, may not have access to. Let them do the legwork (of which they are experts) and then explore the options they present.

Best of luck!

If you tell us your budget and specs (minimums) we can look around for you. Fancy cuts are really hard to evaluate (especially if
you are new to diamonds). Sorry...I was hoping that you had found a winner.

I didn't like the look of the photograph either. Nice job passing on this one. Stay positive, the right diamond will come along!
