Wedding Our venue - reclaimed brick building in a small Texas town

[Guilty Pleasure]

I thought y''all might like to see pictures of my venue. It''s an old building in downtown Bryan, TX. The brick walls are showing, it has an antique bar and huge mirror above a sideboard/ dresser (big piece of furniture named something I can''t remember at the moment!) There are very pretty chandeliers hanging from an open wooden ceiling painted black/brown. My fiance called it ghetto, but I think (hope) that he just lacks vision. I told him that I prefer the term, "urban"

When I imagine it with tables and linens and candles everywhere, it is beautiful in my head!

last one - some tables that hadn''t been put away from an even the night before. The space is sort of split into two huge rooms that are separated by a brick wall with two large openings in it, so it''s very open. This is the room that has french doors opening out onto the small patio (doors not pictured)

Ah, I used to build custom homes in BCS. Downtown Bryan has some neat places. I went to a Big Otis concert down there one night. It was in a place very
similar to your venue. I love the place you chose, the brick walls and chandeliers are really cool. And I agree, dress it up with tablecloths and candle light, very
romantic.

lol That is not "ghetto".. I think that with the right table linens and such it could look very nice! But it certainly is not ghetto.

haha, I agree that it is not ghetto! I believe his exact words were, "It''s kind of ghetto... but on purpose". I think he just didn''t know what else to call a room with no finished ceiling or walls. The entire space has exterior brick wall showing except for the little hallway they created to lead to the restrooms.

I think the building has some great character and is pretty much a blank slate for whatever you want to do with it! No ugly 1980's carpet or wallpaper to deal with, hehe. It will look beautiful with candlelight everywhere. I really liked that chandelier in one of the photos -- maybe you could work that into the theme and even bring in more of them.

The name of the place is Downtown 202. It''s on Bryan Street and faces the LaSalle Hotel and Brazos Cotton Exchange.

It is the site of my dreams! I think it will be fabulous with the right linens and decor. You really don''t have to do a lot with it. Can you hire an outside caterer for it?

OMG, imagine the photos!!!!!! The color photos, at different levels of saturation, the B&W ones, the sepia ones!!! Ohhhhhhh...this place is all kinds of perfect for creative photos!

I don''t think it''s "ghetto on purpose" To me, "Ghetto on purpose" is more like an art gallery in the warehouse district of a big, urban city. When I think "Ghetto on purpose" I think of things like grafitti art, and steel & concrete buildings, and lots of industrial-style details, like exposed ductwork in the ceilings and steel door handles and stuff.

This is more of a "rustic" vibe to me. I think it''s beautiful. You have just GOT to come back with pics of your wedding after the big day!!!

haha, it''s funny you mention the term "rustic" because I actually think it is "rustic urban" which makes no sense at all, but here''s why... It does have exposed ducts and some graffiti on the brick (no gang graffiti or anything, just you can tell that things were written on the wall at some point in bright paints like at a rave or something), but it also has rustic elements like the antique bar and the wooden beams in the ceiling and the fact that it''s in a little Texas town. It''s weird, but I like it! I will definitely come back and post pictures after it''s all said and done. I hope that I can create a recpetion as beautiful as the one floating in pieces in my head... we will see!

Suitelady - I am hiring a caterer that is actually located on that same street. It''s a yummy restaurant with a good reputation in town, and the manager there said that she would take care of renting all the linens and glassware and tables etc and setting it up/ taking it down. I don''t think I could have committed to such a huge undertaking (booking a reception venue with absolutely nothing in it) if I hadn''t had the reassurance that I wouldn''t have to do everything myself. I was a bit overwhelmed at first!

oobiecoo - My ex-partner is still building and stays busy. We built some of the largest and nicest homes around!!
I stopped about 2 years ago. The drive from Houston was getting too much.
I used 2 faux firms, one more than the other. I''m sure you must know "B" and her crew,
the other was a 2 woman company. I''m sure there are others, but I mostly called "B" when
I needed her.
