Her name is Savannah (nickname: Savvy) and although she got a little dirty on her way in, she's beauuuuuutiful.

Sadly, the winter weather has taken an absolute toll on our road, and while I know she can handle it, I'm not sure I want to spend the first moments of her maiden voyage playing "avoid the giant effing pothole"... We're overdue for a resurfacing so hopefully the crews take advantage of this weekend. It's suppose to be cold, but DRY.

Waiting at the end of the driveway...

Ready to be unloaded!

Our key! The car detects when the key is inside and starts! No buttons to push or anything!

Happy in her new home! (With a very proud me!)

Thanks, missy!

And since I'm a super proud mama, I need to share a few more shots...

Tesla badge on the front end (and that's a front trunk, or "frunk"...there's no engine in there!)

Door handles in the retracted position...

In-dash screen...when the car is "on" it has your speedometer, a gauge showing how much power you're using, etc.

Giant touchscreen that runs the whole car.

Ok I'm sure I'm asking the idiot question but since I know jack about cars...What is it?

And just to add- my car has the same keyless entry- IT IS AMAZING!!! I love never having to dig into my purse for the keys. As soon as I approach the cars the doors unlock and then I just hit the button. I will never buy a car again where I need a key to start it with a turn!

AND I LOVE the color of SAVVY!

OMG VC -- that is FABULOUS with a capital F!!!!!

Haha, Sarah, she's a Tesla Model S. She's a 100% electric vehicle with a 200+ mile range (we have a 60 kWh battery) and she goes 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds. :D

DH has followed the company ever since they introduced their Roadster in 2007 or so...this is their first attempt at a sedan, and I think they did a pretty dang good job of it, too! Telsa is owned by the man who started PayPal and also owns SpaceX, the civilian company that launched the rocket that docked with the International Space Station.

Thanks, D*J! Chicago is within one charge for us on a nice day, so pending your return to the Windy City, I'll let you know when we finally take her on a road trip to my mom's! We'll meet up and Savvy can meet up with Billy Ray.

Seriously -- just gorgeous! Have have gone for a real drive yet? Do you LOVE it?!?

I am dying for a million more pics! I want photos of everything--close ups of the tires! Seatbelt clips! Wiper-turner-onner thingy! Everything!

I see now that you're waiting for better road conditions... I hope those potholes get fixed ASAP!

I'll happily oblige when we take the plastic off everything! We're suppose to have sun this weekend, so I'll pull her out in to the driveway and take lots and lots of detail pics, just for you!

In the meantime...the few I did manage to snag...

The front emblem...

The brakes...

And the trunk...

Gorgeous. So awesome. Yes, please come to Chicago with that baby. We're having a PS GTG on 4/20 and will happily make room at the restaurant for you and Savvy!

Awesome car.
Thanks for being an early adopter of electric cars.

The car (and owner) is gorgeous, but I'm totally freaked out and scared of it because it, and it's "key?" remind me of that t.v. series "V" from the '80's. *runs away screaming*

I'm happy for you. Please don't turn out to be a lizard-like alien! :wavey: :naughty:

OMG amazing car!!! Wish it was mine :lickout: Seriously, super cool!

There is a Tesla service center around the corner from my office, and there are quite a few of them in my building's parking garage. The first time I saw The sedan I had to do a double-take... I was like, "what's that fancy thing?!?!" it's very slick, congrats! Hope you get some good weather soon do you can drive it!

**on the topic of sports cars: during a meeting today my coworker pointed out a very fancy red Porsche high-centered on the curb in front of the Tesla dealership. The lady driving cut the corner too tight and ended up stuck *facepalm* Ouch. That repair bill's gonna hurt!

Rosebloom, I've got the GTG marked in my calendar, but I promised hubs that we'd take the first long trip together so if he's not up to it, I'm still going to try and make it out on Amtrak!

Thanks, monnie! I can't say I ever saw the series, but now I'm going to have to google around to find out what you're talking about!

Thanks, tuffy! And YEOUCH! That is no bueno on the Porsche. But I had to LOL that it was outside the Tesla dealership!

She's beautiful, Vc! I can't wait to hear more about your experiences when she's out on the road.

And here I thought our new Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4 was fancy.... :snore:

How cool is that car! I love it ---thank you so much for sharing pictures. It's an awesome color. Going to show my Fiance the car now ---he's a car fanatic!

Zoe and Malbec, thanks! Zoe, I'll continue to update this thread for those interested, since I think it's important to introduce new technologies, the pros AND cons. And I promise to be as unbiased as possible!

VC, this may be the stupidest question ever but... do you plug Savvy in to a 220V outlet or did you have to have a special electrical run put in? (I'm kind of embarrassed I don't know this since I've been a Tesla fan for so long.)

Not stupid at all! The charging cable that came with the car has interchangable plugs. Currently she's plugged into a standard 110V outlet, actually, because DH ran into some trouble getting through the wall and into the basement to run the new line for the charger. When he's done, she'll get plugged into a standard 220V outlet and will charge at a rate of about 18 miles/hour. Considering she'll be plugged in at least 20 hours a day, that's more than fast enough for her average daily use! Tesla also sells a high-powered wall connector, which basically combines 2 220V outlets into a single unit and can charge up to 36 miles/hour, but we opted not to spend the extra money on that. We also have an adapter that will accept the plug end of a J-1772 charger, which is the standard "Level 2" charger, since the actual port in our car doesn't match it, and that will enable us to use most public charging stations if necessary/desired.

She's quite pretty!

VC, you're probably out having a ton of fun cruising Savvy around, but just wanted to see how the newest member of your family was settling in! Is she sleeping through the night? Making new friends? Have the grandparents seen their grandcar yet? :cheeky:

Thank you, tyty...she needs a good wash...hopefully we'll be above freezing this week so we can take care of that!

D*J...::sniff::sniff::...I feel like such a bad car momma...she's only been to the end of the driveway!!! :(sad ;( They did not repave our road this weekend like I had hoped, and in fact the road continues to get worse every day with the additional snow melt. It really sucks, because after just the first mile, we'd be on perfectly paved and in-great-condition roads...but neither of us can bear to put her through that first mile! She is, however, sleeping through the night just fine...I think she likes the nursery. ;)

And the grandparents and auntie have seen pictures and they're looking forward to meeting her this spring after it's safe to go out!
