. . . and I''m so excited! I posted after we ordered them because I was so happy about them then, and now that I have the proof I''m even more excited. I think seeing the real text makes everything feel very real. Eeeeeeeh!
Here''s the invite proof, it will be black with white engraving:
I hadn''t even thought about the stamps, but I just checked the USPS website and didn''t see any black and white stamps. Perhaps they''ll have more in a post office. Great idea!
It''s beautiful Haven! I have a question though and I hope you don''t mind. I couldn''t tell if you''ve ordered the actual invitations yet or not. I wasn''t sure I understood the last line, "And afterward at the reception." I mean, I get what it means, but that one line doesn''t seem to flow like the rest of the invitation. Okay, so that wasn''t a question, it was more of an observation. I hope it''s okay that I said something. I DO LOVE the invitation very much.
They look great Haven! As for stamps, I believe you can personalize stamps now with pics of babies, etc., so maybe you could order personalized stamps for your invites? Just a thought.
Zoe--Don''t worry about asking questions, sweetie! We did order the invitations, these are our proofs to check before they engrave them. As for the last line, we used the traditional wording because that''s what we prefer. The last line is actually not only proper in terms of etiquette, but it is technically correct because it is a continuation of the phrase "request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter . . . and afterward at the reception." (I''m an English teacher so these things are important to me.) I know people often use "reception immediately following" or some such phrase nowadays, but I find that particular wording distasteful, as it sounds more like a business memo than an elegant invitation. It''s funny that you think the line doesn''t flow, because to me it flows much better than the modern, more informal wording people often use. It''s all about perception, I guess!
I did make sure to consult all of my favorite etiquette mavens before signing off on the invites just to make sure, though.
Monarch--I like the idea of ordering personalized stamps. I wonder if we could use a black and white photo of the silver bookmarks my FI presented when he proposed. That would be really sweet, I think. Thanks for the great idea!
Ahhh, I get it! I read the wording again, and yes, the last line is a continuation of the beginning (not that I doubted you but I needed to read it aloud to see it for myself). The wording totally flows for me now.
I had never seen it written like that before (and I''m a stickler for proper grammar -- who knew?). See, you learn something new every day!
Haven, I don''t know if I''ve said this before. But I ADORE your invitations. Just flat out adore them. And the proofs are lovely. Can''t wait to see the final product!
