Poor hubby has an earache (aren''t they just the worst?). He had one a few weeks back, and now it''s back again, so we want to get him some medicine. Do any of you know any good OTC ear medicines? Or any at-home treatments for ear aches?

I used similisac or something like that a few months ago when I had a bad earache associated with a really bad cold (or maybe it was the flu?).

It helped a bit, but if I remember correctly it didn''t make the pain go away completely.

My mother used to heat olive oil GENTLY (can't stress the GENTLY enough for obvious reasons!), pour it in the ear, and then block the ear with cotton wool. The idea was that the heat and sound insulation would be soothing, and the oil would dissolve any blockage and soothe any inflammation.

I have no idea if this is something that is still recommended or considered safe though, so best to check that out before you chase him round the house with the spoonful of warm olive oil!!!

ETA - hmmm just off of a very quick Google search it seems like this nursing website is OK with the olive oil trick?

Thanks Robbie and Delster!

Delster, Haha! Your comment made me laugh! I can totally picture myself having to chase him around the house.

Ditto to Delster. Works like a charm!

A few drops of vinegar in the ear works great too
