Hi All,

It sounded like a few of were interested in our journey with having my ring designed by Oscar Heyman, so I thought I would post an update. Our local jeweler called me yesterday to let me know that OH was inquiring as to whether we had settled on a stone, and if so, what the dimensions are so they're artist's rendering of the ring would be exactly to scale. Luckily, we made a decision on our diamond, so I was able to provide them with the details.

She said once they had that information, they should be back to us within a few days with drawings! Of course, being impatient as we have a wedding in March coming (and our kids don't know... we didn't want to share with them until the ring was on my finger!), I asked if there was a way they could email a scanned copy of the drawings, as well as mailing the originals. I haven't heard if that is possible, but will let you know if it is.

Specs and a picture of the diamond we decided on (horrible picture as the loose diamond "holder" kept slipping around my finger because it's way too big!):

Oh my goodness.... I'm so amazed by the interest in this piece. It makes me so happy to know that there are so many other OH lovers out there. I fell in love with their history, their work... everything about them!

So, I go an email copy of the actual rendering of the ring they are handcrafting for us. It's delicious! The original rendering will be at our jewelers on Monday. tomorrow, first thing, we get the price quote from them. I don't know if I'm allowed to post that information, but gladly will if I am. I'm having our jeweler check to see if I'm allowed to post the copy of the rendering online as it's copyrighted. My guess is not, but I'll let you all know.

This dream is becoming a reality... I can't wait.

But honestly, what I can't wait even more for is that we will get to announce our BIG news to our combined four children once we have the ring! We're getting married on a "familymoon" in St. Martin in March and the kids have no idea! I'm so excited to share this with them.

Well, the jeweler said she "didn't think Oscar Heyman would mind" if I posted the renderings here, but is still waiting to hear back from the rep that they are working with at OH. I would just hate to post a copy of the rendering and jeopardize our beautiful ring! So, I'm patiently waiting to get true authorization from her. It's killing me that i can't post it!

I also asked her if we could keep the original renderings. Apparently, OH usually wants them back as they are their "intellectual property" but I would like to keep them and frame them. Even the hand-crafting that goes into the drawings on vellum is beautiful. I would like to frame them as little pieces of artwork. Dumb and sentimental, I know...

Tomorrow we will get the original renderings (we have only seen the scanned copy that was emailed to us) and ALL of the specs on the setting. We know, so far, that it contains 60 rb diamonds, but not sure of size and carat weight. We got the price from them, too... If anyone is interested in that, let me know and I'll post it.

We have authorized OH to create a wax of the ring, so that's the next thing we're waiting for. Ugh! Waiting is killing me! I've got this wedding almost completely planned and we haven't told anyone yet! I know it will be more than worth it, but I feel like a kid on Christmas morning waiting for her parents to wake up so she can open her gifts...

Hi, I really hope OH let you post the renderings here, I would love to see them.
I don't think it is dumb at all wanting to frame the renderings, like you said they really are an art form and look great framed up.
I collect original antique jewellery renderings myself, mostly French from the 20's to the 50's.

Have you seen the beautiful flower brooch rendering on the OH Facebook page? It's amazing!

I'm pretty sure OH will want the original back for their archive, they have all their original renderings from all the pieces they have made. You should be able to get a really good copy of it though that will look just as good once it is framed, I would recommend taking it to an art place that will use decent paper and get the colours correct.

Yay!!! I just got permission to post the rendering! My jeweler told me that "They are thrilled that I love the rendering" and thank me for asking permission to post it. I don't think you will be able to zoom in on it like I was able to, but at least you will get a feeling for what they are crafting for us!

I will post pictures of the wax when we receive that, too.

The brooch rendering IS amazing... my little, 'ol ring is nowhere near as spectacular... but it will be my own piece of the OH legacy!

Well, I was able to see the rendering in person today... it's even prettier!

I also got the specifications for the setting only:

Platinum - 2.2 ml shank
Setting TCW: 1.6 - 1.65 ct
60 Round Brilliant: 2.5 pts each
Clarity: VS1-2
Color: E-F
Full Eternity Band

(Specs for center stone are at the top of the thread)

I decided to go with a size 4.5 band with sizing beads instead of a 4.25. Because the center stone and halo will make the ring so "top heavy," Oscar Heyman recommended that I go up a quarter size on the band and insert the beads to keep the ring from spinning around.

I sent my diamond away to them today... YIKES! I felt very protective saying goodbye to her, even temporarily! Anyway, the wax should be in within a week. If we like it, it's "thumb's up." It's possible I might even have my ring before the month is out!

I have to give a huge shout out to Danielle Newman and Chris Graham at Graham Jewelers. Without their expertise in the industry generally and Oscar Heyman specifically, we probably wouldn't have gone this route!

Thank you so much for asking!!!! The wax just came in to Graham Jewelers yesterday, so FI and I went to look at it. The wax itself is blue. OH set my real stone into the wax and "simulated the pave with pearly white paint. I have attached some photos... sorry they aren't the best quality as I took them on my cell phone. Suffice it to say, after seeing the wax perched on my finger (the actual ring will be slightly smaller), I don't think I will suffer from DSS/ And I better not, because this truly is a one-of-a-kind forever ring!

Again, I can't thank Danielle Newman at Graham enough for facilitating this. She has been wonderful, as have the artisans at Oscar Heyman.

Danielle overnighted the wax/diamond back to OH yesterday, so they will have it by Monday (tomorrow). She thinks she will have an estimated completion date for me Monday or Tuesday. Three weeks is their "standard" turn-around time, but she thinks it's possible it might be done sooner. Soooo excited!!!

I don't have a profile shot of the wax... the wax was so delicate, it actually snapped as she was taking it off the little "spool" they shipped it to them on. The wax was actually sort of just balancing on my finger when I took the pictures. Surprisingly, for the size of the center stone, the entire setting has quite a low profile. That was very important to SO as he was worried about me knocking it into things. The rendering is very accurate with regard to the profile.
