When ordering a custom piece online, what happens when there is a problem? I know most custom pieces are not returnable, but will most jewelers work with the customer to fix the problems-or in the case of an eternity band, remake it completely?

I am thinking more of aesthetics, not bad workmanship. It is what makes me nervous about ordering custom online-what if I just don''t like it?
Has anyone had experience with this?

I think you are just stuck with it when it is just aesthetics.
That''s why I''d only work with a vendor that provides CAD pics and wax models.

There have been many many stories of people being uhappy with the finished product *for valid reasons* and having the ring completely remade by the company. A valid reason would typically be that the ring differs significantly from the CAD images that were approced. Unfortunalty, you cannot just change your mind

If you are really concerned about it, then perhaps consider buying a stock piece that will have 100% return policy?

Whiteflash and BGD are two companies that I *know* will strive to always make the customer 100% happy. Leon Mege does stellar work but there is no recourse if you are unhappy (or rarely there is but no guarantee).

The Facets Collection has a good selection of eternity bands in many styles and carat weights. Maybe you could find what you are looking for without going custom.

I don't think you'll find anyone to remake your ring just because you don't like it especially if they followed your direction to a T.

custom is always a gamble. finding a good vendor is key. I would recommend trying to find a stock piece with a return policy if you are really unsure.

cakegirl- I think you should ask pointed questions......such as "If you custom make a ring for me , and I do not like it, what happens?"
If a seller is custom making a ring for you, and they do;t make you comfortable that they will guarantee your satisfaction, don''t risk it.

I think that a middle ground can be achieved.
For example- the seller might agree to give you a money back guarantee where the refund is less the cost of labor and some materials

Thank you everyone. I am sorry I was somewhat vague when I posted. I was not sure how to deal with this situation and what to expect. I did order a ring, and when it arrived it was not what I expected. I think the problem is in the subjective nature of describing jewelry- "delicate" or "low profile " can mean different things to different people. It is a fairly standard eternity ring, but was special order because it was listed in white gold and I wanted platinum

I am not going to discuss the particular company until everything is resolved, but I have a feeling I will be posting singing their praises. They are reworking the ring and if I then don''t like it allowing me to return it!
