Optical Symmetry "A"-I have been browsing through sites for a while now and have noticed every once in a while a diamond that exhibits this image. What exactly is optical symmetry A or is it just a variation of cut style in hearts & arrows stones. Different patterning and elongated hearts? Just wanting some info. How does it compare in look to other Hearts & Arrows?

Any Info would be appreciated..

We don't know what the seller is referring to as "optical symmetry A" but those are some pretty FAT pavilion mains!

yea ... definetely fat arrows. Josh ... disregard the optical symmetry "A" comment about that stone. At one time a while ago I was thinking of assigning 3D symmetry grades to the diamonds. So while that stone would not be sold as an H&A diamond it does display excellent symmetry nonetheless and it is an AGS "0" in cut quality. Matter of fact a stone like it ran on the Isee2 gets one of the highest symmetry grades because 3d facet alignment on it was outstanding.

Peace,
Rhino

Was the stone you ran the 1.52 H SI-1? That stone has an awesome fiescope image. In regards to "traditional hearts & arrows how does this stone perform visually with branded Hearts & Arrows. Seems from the firescope images on both these stones, they both display minimal leakage with the most prominent being beyond the tips of the star facets. With this unique looking cut it seems that the leakage resides in different areas of this style of cutting? What do you think?

We noticed that the Fire Scope image indicated that there wasn't very much light leakage, but wonder whether the width of the pavilion mains will make the stone darker in the center? Having not seen a diamond with pavilion mains cut this broad, we have nothing to base an opinion on... We assume that if the facets are aligned well and the angles are "right" that the stone is probably quite pretty... Rhino, have you seen this diamond in-person?

Josh that is a great example of a stone that would not make the H&A cut. Sometimes I look at the H&A stone images and think...what are these minute differences that the trained eyes see that knock it out of the range?? But in a stone like that, its obvious.

That is one chubby arrowed little stone! Its practically all arrows!

I too would love to hear what it looks like in person.

R/T I know B is the highest grade you assign to your H&A stones because you can always find something wrong (according to your site) but have you EVER seen a H&A that you would like to classify an A?

It looks like some of the images a CZ produces.

Not since we started grading H&A patterns under the $7K lab scope we imported from Japan

One of our suppliers told us that he was "quite pleased that none of his other customers felt the need to use such equipment"...

Another factor is that most of the companies that originally produced the true Hearts & Arrows diamonds have long since gone out of business* or elected for higher production output as opposed to a higher quality of precision.

* many of the companies were small cutting houses who went out of business when DeBeers decided to cull (sp?) diamond industry a few years ago after deciding that there were about twice as many people in the industry than they thought there needed to be... Many of the dealers here on PS may recall that skirmish, it resulted in some major bankrupticies that shook the foundation of the industry pretty hard...

Hey R-T, does that scope have a H&A viewer attachment? Describe it a little bit.
