Opions on an Asscher (PICTURES)

Hey all

I am looking at buying the following asscher soon. Could I get your honest opinions on it? Is a thick girdle an issue with an asscher? Also, I don''t really know how to interpret the ''light refraction'' image, if anyone could help with that I would be really appreciative. THANKS!

thick is not an issue.

blah pics too much tilt but it has potential.
Ask for more real pics and have them eyeball the patterns.

I think its quite pretty, I like the wide corners, but then again I enjoy octagonal stones as well, a bit more unique. The thick girdle can be considered an issue simply because it is a location where weight can be hidden and not really serve any other purpose than to make the stone more $$$, rather than returning light. The ideal scope is nice and full of red with blacks and no white leakage parts. Only thing to keep in mind is that while it is likely a bright stone, the dark zones might look dark when you are looking at the stone with your head obscuring the typical overhead lightsource, and that might be bothersome to you. But I have a sense that it will also be a firey stone! Some people might find the patterns less than perfect but I think they are pleasing to my humble eye. Hope this helps.

sl-thick to thick girdles are a fact of life with asschers otherwise they would cut the rough into princess cuts.

This stone demonstrates that the IS does not work on some asschers.
There are some asshcers where it just reds out and others it overstates the blacks.
An ASET image of the diamond would tell a totally different tale than the IS.
The regular picture does also but its harder to read.
Without the tilt the dark area middlish bottom in the regular picture will match the other sides if its a good one.
If it does its a top asscher and the IS image is wrong.

Iv got a good feeling its a good one more pictures and the vendors eyeballs will confirm that then the buyer will have final say :}

Getting the crown height to make sure its over 10% would also be a good thing but by the looks of it id be shocked if it was under.

my first thought on seeing those pictures is...I WANT ONE!!! i love the cut corners.

i noticed that it says GIA select ideal with a trademark symbol....is this some sort of branded asscher??

to me what the IS does show is great symmetry...to me anyway. then again, i also don't have the *eye* to nitpick on asschers as it seems like almost every one i have seen in person looks really lovely to me....my eye cannot pick up tiny nuances in off symmetry typically.

I appreciate all the information. Mara - the ''Select Ideal'' is Uniondiamond.com term for ideal cut I believe. Below is the Sarin report. Strm - it looks like it is more than 10% like you said.

No it is from WF - but it is on Uniondiamond and James Allen. I''m thinking it is the one. Now I just need to pick a setting - Anyone have a recommendation for an asscher?

For a setting, it really depends what her style is. Here''s some ideas I have:

If she likes antique settings, go for claw prongs with a thin pave band. This style looks awesome with asschers by the way!!
If she likes modern, check out wallermama''s satin finish solitaire setting and lauren the partier''s bezel setting.
If she has a classic style, go with a shiny finish plain solitaire, or a three stone ring with traps or baguettes as side stones.

Looks like a nice asscher to me!

As for the setting...I love a halo setting on an asscher (see my avatar)!

Asschers tend to be a bit small in terms of size for the carat weight...and a halo is a great way to increase the impact of the stone and make it look larger!

Just my opinion!

Thanks for everyone''s insight. I chose a fairly simple 18k white gold solitare setting. I get the ring tomorrow and I will post some pictures then. I can''t wait!

Yea that was the winner. I really like the cut corners compared to other asschers and it is purdy
