Who certified the diamond?

I''m not an expert but I don''t see any problems with the specs that you have. The depth can be a bit bigger. Have you gone to see the stone or are you reading it form a website? With princesses, its very important to see them in person b/c they can vary greatly and the specs don''t always tell how well the stone may sparkle and how crisp it will look. If this is an SI2 and you haven''t seen the stone to make sure that you are ok with the clarity, I would be concerned that the inclusion is located where its obvious.

Maybe someone else can tell you more specifically...

thank you for your reply..i have not seen the stone my boy friend is buying the stone from a shop that is interstate..a friend of mine had a ring made using a princess and it looks sort of flat..i am wondering whether to choose a round diamond instead of a princess..as we are at early stages and can change..

i forgot to add that the certification is by a company called ''AUSCERT''

What do you mean by flat? Are you referring to the setting or the look of the stone?

If you are referring to the look of the stone than its probably not a good thing; it may be lacking contrast (looks dull rather than crisp and bright). If the stone doesn''t speak to you, you shouldn''t settle for it. If you are not sure if you want to go with rounds or squares, the best thing to do is to go to your local jewelry store and try some rings on in squares and rounds and see which you prefer on your hand.

As far as the certificate, I never heard of ''AUSCERT.'' Usually the most trusted certificates are form GIA or AGL. It may be that ''AUSCERT'' are lenient in grading the diamond and your stone can be rated by GIA as G I1, which is of much lower value. So be careful. If you decide to purchase the stone, make sure you get an independent appraiser to look at your stone before commiting to it.

Again as far as measurments are concerned, it looks to be a pretty good cut.

Many, many average cut Princess stones have very shallow crowns which make them look "flat" geometrically - and it usually doesn''t do much for light return either!

i was refering to when i saw a princess in a ring setting..it seemed flat..did not sparkle..i was told that out of the setting it does sparkle..the princess was not elevated high enough..

thank you for your reply much appreciated..

thank you for the link Gary..

just thought i would add the link for auscert..i would appreciate knowing if i should get the stone checked with another group..

hey citylites

welcome to ps!

i like to see a princess with a higher crown (over 10%) a little more depth and less table. if you''re not entirely sure on the shape, don''t settle. princess and rounds are two totally different cuts with different characteristics. decide what it is you want most out of a diamond and go from there. best of luck to you!

A dimond usually looks a bit more brighter and sparkly loose. Its a difference of degree. SO if the diamond doesn''t sparkle that much, it is not because its in a setting but probably because its a bad cut or dirty. A well cut diamond will sparkle magnifisantly even in a low setting.

thank you for your reply and welcome belle..i have read some much here about the princess..that i realise there is more to a princess than i first thought..i want a diamond that will sparkle with brilliance..maybe that is what i should be looking at instead of the shape of a diamond..i have just finsihed reading about the 2 pavillion angles and the 2 crown angles of a princess..never realised that before..all too confusing for a lay person like myself..

thank you Kaleidoscopic..i will take what you have said into consideration..it gives me something to think about..

I am not sure how to go about guessing what the relation between those numbers and brilliance is. Any chance you might find a princess cut with cut grading for the money?

Does the seller of this one practice any sort of cut quality evaluation? That might help... After all, all those stats sound just fine.

On the other hand...

How does THIS measure up? There aren''t too many AGS0 princes cuts just yet.

I may be a little late responding, but I would pass on this stone. Although the crown height is not horrible, it could be much better. As usual, I agree with Belle in that I would want to see a stone with a little more depth for that table size. Oh, and I''ve never heard of that grading company either. Listen to Kaleidoscopic and stick with GIA, AGS, or even EGL U.S..

thank you for your opinion..it is much appreciated..
