I'm new to this site and not an experienced diamond buyer, although I have spent some time over the last several months on other sites trying to gain enough knowledge to make a wise purchase of an engagement ring. The time has come to get serious about that and I've found a diamond at Union Diamond that has me interested. I mentioned it to a local jeweler I've done business with and his comments were, "sounds way to good to be true" and "the price is way below reality". I'd appreciate any comments and opinions you folks have.
Diamond details are here or you could see it on the website @ www.uniondiamond.com stock number AA654497.

Diamond Description:

Wire Transfer Price=$5,267

How is Union Diamonds reputation?

Thanks for your time...

I know that on ps not many people use them. But here it is very highly recommended. I''ve never dealt with them, but it seems like their customer service and knowledge is excellent. The price is very good too.

However, I once took several of their ''ideal-cut'' diamond from them and plugged in the numbers in HCA, and the result was "very good", not "excellent".

Then I went to GooldOldGold, which is VERY recommended on ps, and took some of their diamonds and did the same. All of them came out to be graded "excellent". Their price is very reasonable as well, and I know many people here rave about them.

My untrained eye probably will not be able to tell the difference between HCA 2.3 (Union Diamond) and HCA 1.2 (GOG), so to me I would go with whom I am more comfortable with. They both have good return policy, but I have a feeling that GOG is more technically competent. But this is just judging from their websites.

I''m rambling now...Sorry if I''m not much help...

Hi north,

I can''t find the diamond with that number, but it doesn''t really matter as I don''t think UD gives the kind of info we like to see here, especially on fancy cuts. With a Princess, I''d really advise sticking with an AGS stone, because they grade for light performance, or a GIA from a vendor who gives you Idealscope and ASET photos which help tell about the light return.

Looking around I found this one. It is not the specs you were looking at (didn''t have any), but you really could go down a bit in color and clarity. I know it''s well cut, and you really do get what you pay for. There would be a 2% PS discount on this. Need to ask if eyeclean.

Here''s another, bankwire price is their discount. Again, check on eyecleanliness.

And these vendors both have a good upgrade policy.
