Hi Dorothy..You can get a better cut, better performing stone, in that same size for cheaper...




Check out some of the internet vendors...For around that price you can get a top of the line hearts and arrows stone if your in the market for cut quality..

If you're looking at a stone in the store, you can bring along an IdealScope (available through this website). It's a little doo-dad that enables you to see if the stone is losing light or reflecting most/all of it.

Wherever you're looking, the crown and pavilion angles are key to determining a stone's performance. Once you've got them, you can plug them into the Cut Adviser.
0-2 = excellent
2-4 = very good
4-6 = good (But at this point, most people start over and look for a better performing stone)
6-10 = blech

To get the crown and pavilion angles, you'll either need an AGS cert or the vendor to run a sarin analysis on the stone.

Your Blue Nile stone gets a 1.7.
That Dirt Cheap Diamond stone gets a 1.4

There are also BrillianceScope or ISee2 machines which measure a diamond's light return.

Some other ideas:

1.14 G SI1 H&A for $5362 (White Flash publishes lower prices on the PS search engine than on their site -- mention PS for the lower price)

1.11 E SI1 very good cut for $5263

1.13 E SI1 H&A for $6480

1.10 D SI1 H&A for $7400 Take $250 off for paying by wire transfer

1.24 G SI1 H&A for $6800 You'll have to use the search engine to find it (other stones in that range as well)

But I've got to say, that stone mentioned by Noobie looks amazing! You are saving $1300 off of your budget that can be spent on an amazing setting or your honeymoon. Or you can look for a bigger stone in the 1.20-1.30 range. I had a hard time finding F SI1's with more information than just table and depth, but if you find a stone you might like, you can email the vendor for more information. Note: These stones are all listed by multiple vendors, so you have a choice of whom to work with.

For example:
1.28 F SI1 for $7440 Since this stone is AGS certed, the vendor can probably get a copy of the cert pretty easily, and then you'll at least know its HCA score.

I don't consider myself knowledgable enough to make recommendations to people from listed stones. The only reason I mentioned that one was the fact that I personaly held it less than 6" from my face and looked at it for about 20 minutes and also checked it out under a microscope. I thought it was a beautiful diamond at a very reasonable $/carat cost. It fit the Blue Nile specs and is significantly less.




phoenixgirl pointed out some nice alternatives. The SI1 G looks promising at a good price. As John and PG point out, you could save more money and get a similar size diamond or get a larger one for your budget.




If you are looking at a 1.15 carat SI1 F color diamond and was leaning to the one from Blue Nile, I think the one I pointed out would look just as nice at much less money.




You can call Jim at Dirt Chap and ask for the specs and pictures, certificates and firescope images. You can most likely have it shipped to an appraiser near you before paying as well.

I think you can get a bigger stone, ie..1.20cts. FVS2 1.35 gvs2,or a 1.35 dsi1 for 7500+/-.
check the web,go on different sites, compare cut,clarity,and Price.
