So, I'm in the process of having an E ring semi mount made. These are the CADs so far. The 2 raised stones at the North, South, East and West points were going to be Sapphires. But the more I think about it, I'm contemplating changing those to Emeralds instead, Because Hubby and I were married on St. Patrick's day. So I thought may e the green would be a nice sentimental touch. Thoughts on Sapphires vs Emeralds? Which would look better etc.

I'd prefer the durability of sapphires.

I would have your CAD designer use a little more metal, after polish and prepolish there will be not that much metal and over the years that ring will wear and potentially crack (from what I can tell)...

I would make it a bit heavier all around.

Sapphires are more durable than Emerald in my understanding.

It depends on the metal.

If you're doing it in platinum or white gold, sapphires. If it's in yellow or rose gold, then emeralds.

14k White Gold and here's a few pics of the original ring I'm having CADs made of

As far as I am concerned- HUGE difference in the look of the ring. I would go for looks above other concerns, durability, etc. (I might regret that later, lol, but just telling you what I'd do)

You need to LOVE what you choose. I would personally be hesitant to use colored stones so prominently in my engagement ring, because I might not always want to have that color. What do you love? Emeralds or sapphires? Blue or green?

IF I were to put a colored stone on my erring, it would be rubies. I love them (and red spinels) far more than any other colored stone. So, easy decision for me.

So, if you are uncertain, you could perhaps use diamonds in the halo and consider picking up a couple delicate vintage eternities, you could have one of each color, then, for your mood or outfit that day?

I love your last idea. If you're undecided, do diamonds, then you can get sentimental with emeralds or sapphires. Down the road in f you get one, then want the other, you won't be able to go with an eternity then as mixing the two might get wierd.

I LOVE sapphires.. I originally wanted a sapphire e-ring, but hubby insisted on a diamond because of tradition. Then j found my OEC and fell in love. That's why we were adding sapphire accents this time around since I need a new setting. Emerald is my 2nd favorite. I love how both accents look with diamonds and even together. I had started considering emerald Cuz I thought it'd be nice having the green since we were married on St . Patrick's day.

+1. I love the idea of having the engagement ring be set with all diamonds and using bands for the colored stones.
This is your ring. You need to get what will make you the happiest.

From the comments you have made it sounds to me like sapphires are your first love. If this is how you feel, don't let anyone sway you.

I have to agree with the all-diamond recommendations. I know that - from day to day - my tastes/preferences change, and it is fantastic having options and flexibility. Those same tastes change year after year, and my ideal "style" today is light years away from what it was 5, 10 & 20 years ago. There are so many fun bands you can easily play up your sapphire love with, for example, this one that was just sold would play well with your ring, I would think. http://loupetroop.com/listings/bands/sapphire-and-diamond-milgrain-bezel-eternity-band-from-jbg-sz-5

After reading what you wrote, I'd say sapphires are the way to go- especially if you wanted your original ring to be a sapphire and you love them best. It will be beautiful and completely you.

***a future anniversary is a great opportunity to get a beautiful something in emerald to commemorate the significance of your St. Pat's date!

I also agree that personal taste changes too much to go with colored stones for an everyday ring like an E-ring, so voting for sapphires or emeralds doesn't matter. I love the idea of all diamonds in the E-ring and colored stone bands (similar to the sapphire one that you posted in your other thread). You could stack one or both on any given day.
