Hello all,

This is my first post to PS. I've been reading post for a couple of weeks now; I love this site! Everyone and all the information is so great!

So I'd like everyones opinion on this diamond:
caret 1.71
color D
Clarity SI1
culet None
florescence None
GIA cert
polish EX, symmetry EX, cut EX
table% 60
depth% 60.4
crown angle 34
pavillion angle 40.8
on the HCA it scores a 1.7

What do you think? I remember reading something that 60/60 is negative? Or am I misunderstanding?

Thanks!

Some people love 60/60 stones and prefer them, so I would NOT say it is a negative, it just isn''t the current fad numbers. Once you get past bad stones and good stones there is still a lot of variance in personal preference and style of look. Like, have you considered the LGF length? ::ducking and grinning::

LGF length?? I don''t understand. What is LGF?

And how will a 60/60 stone look compared to a stone with "current fad numbers?"

hehehehe... I''m so bad... I have no pictures on LGF to show you, but they do change the look/personality of the stone. And IMO the bigger the stone, the longer they can be. If you like pinfire get long ones, if you like chunkier fire get short ones.

As for how the stone will look, I defer to those who would know... Mara and Rod come to mind, they both love their stones... Rod has a 60/60 and mara has I don''t remember but guessing a 55/61?

Welcome to PS!

LGF means lower girdle facets and I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you want to go into more complicated effects of diamond cutting and how the LGF can effect appearance. Here is a thread you can read if you want on this subject.

This could potentially be a lovely diamond, 60 60's do have their fans certainly! You could see if you could get a Sarin Report on this diamond and or an Idealscope Image to help further as the GIA numbers are rounded. I take it you really want a D colour? You could drop the colour and still have a white looking diamond, but I am guessing the D matters to you? Check with the vendor that the SI1 is eyeclean if it is with an online seller. I think what Cehra means by current fad numbers is Superideals with certain cut proportions. You have to remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder, many here buy the Superideals which are some of the best cut diamonds in the world. Other diamonds may not display the sort of light performance that these Superideals do, but can still be gorgeous diamonds in their own right. It is a case of deciding what is important to you - a lovely diamond which has a nice make like the one you are looking at or whether you want a true Superideal.

I also forgot to mention that the vendor wants $18k for this. Is this too much for what the stone has to offer?

I, for one, like the looks of 60/60s. Some of them can be VERY beautiful. This one seems to have the right numbers to be one of them!
Pricing is ok. Not really exciting and yes, there are less expensive stones on the net if you run a search here on pricescope, but they may reflect a different type of SI1 (more central, visible, heavy, etc). Are you buying locally (B&M) or online?

I''m buying from a local diamond broker. He has a small office but not a store.

well, i don''t know why I don''t feel excited about this, but I purchased this diamond.
All I feel is alot of anxiety not knowing if I made the right decision. I saw the diamond but to my untrained eyes I have no idea if it was good. It def reflected alot of colors back... the guy said this is what it''s supposed to do, reflect all colors of the rainbow. It seemed to reflect more fire than white light, is this normal? I have such untrained eyes I dismissed this and went ahead with purchase.

Honestly I''m getting a little stressed with looking and overwhelmed with all the choices, so I think I gave into those feeling a little when deciding to purchase.

What do you guys think? Anymore opinions other than the advice which was previously given?

fire vs. white light is a lighting thing

How about some photos? We could look at it and give your our opinion. But if you Love it keep it.

Remember that diamonds can look very different in different lighting conditions and no diamond will sparkle in all circumstances or display it''s light performance all of the time. Ditto what Julie said. Try and look at this diamond as unemotionally as you can. Remember it can look quite different according to the light it has to work with. Do you love it and enjoy it when it " switches on?" In dim light or under a grey sky ( depending on where you live!) does it still look good even if it isn''t sparkly? If you can, get to know the diamond a bit with different lighting conditions and see how you feel then. If you still don''t love it then look again.

Hope this helps!
