Hello all,

I received this stone from WhiteFlash yesterday evening and my BF and I opened it in our living room which is very beige and we use those CFL lightbulbs that are great for the earth but not so great for viewing diamonds. It immediately looked yellowish, or to be less dramatic a sandy/candlelight color especially strong from the side view of course. I freaked out, I had really high hopes because it was the best cut we could afford and I can''t really afford to make the jump to higher color. Leslely at WF said it faced up white so I was sure it would be love. When you lurk for a while on PS, you have high high hopes for these stones. I think I expected magic.

I just took it outside for a photo shoot in the daylight and I''m feeling a little better. It''s truly a well cut diamond, it puts all others we''ve seen at B&M stores to shame. I just can''t tell if it''s too warm or if its just a mental thing now. I plan to set it in 18K white gold. Am I being totally crazy?

One disclaimer: My new digi camera is a lovely bright color called Wasabi green and the diamond is reflecting that in some pics.

Stats to follow, please let me know what you all think. I really appreciate it.

I think it is beautiful. I have a J colour diamond and I love it. I hope you feel that you can love this gorgeous diamond too.

I remember a gal on here who had a lower color diamond and was freaking out. The vendor sent her the higher color stone then as well and when she got it she realised that it was the viewing environment, as they both looked warm.

I think that it might be a mental thing now. Can you go to a store with well cut diamonds (e.g. Hearts on Fire) and compare those to yours in a higher color?

I have fallen prey to the first look at a diamond being a negative one, because of environment, and it ruining it for me. Now I make sure I always open it under the best lighting possible first and then take it around to compare!

I had a .78ct J ACA from WF and I thought it was really white. That all said it is a J and maybe you are color sensitive. There''s no way to tell really unless you compare to some other higher color diamonds.

Good luck!

Thanks guys, it''s really growing on me. Its going to look different in all kind of lighting so I should just get used to it. I''ve never owned a diamond before and I may have over done it with the research and killed it with anticipation and really bad lighting.

I just found that old thread of Mara''s with all the J''s in platinum/white metal and then I relooked at my pics and my stone looks just as great as all of those others.

I don''t dare to comment about diamond color in a picture, but the diamond looks gorgeous.

It looks beautiful, and certainly seems to face up very white in your photos.

I love the reflections of the green of youur camera in the pics. :)

Take your diamond on a few trips to experience it under different lighting (but make sure you keep it clean!) a lend cloth is good for cleaning a loose diamond I found. Try & find somewhere with spotlighting or halogen lighting, like a jeweller or a restaurant - as you'll love the effect you get there. Try candlelight, sunlight, under a tree on a sunny day... and pretty soon you'll be so busy noticing how it reacts in differend environments that you might even forget too check what colour it looks. :)

Just enjoy the sparkles.

*ETA* I forgot to say that those energy-saving lightbulbs are the kiss of death for diamond sparkles. My parents have some & I always think how 'blah' my diamond looks under them.. so it's not just you, and probably not the diamond either. :)

Oh yes, please be sure to look at your gorgeous stone when you are waiting at a red light. Something about the car makes diamonds look super sparkly and lovely. Also, I wouldn''t worry too much about warmth in your stone unless you are thinking about setting it in a band with whiter stones right next to it.

p.s. I must mention that my (first) engagement ring is a D and my upgrade engagement ring is an L; I may not be the best person to ask.

CFT lighting is one of the worst lighting for diamonds as you found out.
Add in beige walls and the diamond didn't have a chance to knock your socks off.
I'm glad you viewed it in other lighting conditions.

I think you diamond looks beautiful. I''ve seen many J,K,L and M''s on here that I think are gorgeous. I''m shopping for one for my upgrade. Have you thought about a setting?

I think it''s gorgeous and well-cut, but at this point it''s really only your opinion that matters. I think you need to feel comfortable and accept the warmth of the stone. If you don''t think you can it''s time to trade it in for an I or an H.

Your diamond looks nothing like a J. Congrats!
