Opinions on this stone??

First let me say, thanks to everyone for all of the information I''ve received by lurking and reading as much as I can. I don''t know what I would have done or how I would have felt about my purchase if I''d been doing this 15 years ago!

The size, cut, color, and clarity all fall into my range of price and quality. The stone is eye clean and the inclusion on the edge can probably be covered by the setting I think. It also performs well on the cut advisor, and the idealscope looks good to my untrained eye. I''ve seen it in person and I really liked it, though my experience is somewhat limited (seen a bunch at the larger retailers, none of which stood out to me).

Does anyone think i should be going a step down down to Ideal cut instead of H&A in order to lower the price or open up room for a better color or clarity?

If you''re worried about the price, I would suggest to go down to just under 1 ct, maybe closer to 0.90. You''ll save a ton of money just getting under that 1 ct mark. Now if the 1 ct is something you really want and you like the symbolism of it, then keep it, but you can save a lot of money there. I don''t think you want to downgrade cut at all, since this is the most important C, but you can get very lovely ideal cut diamonds that aren''t exactly H&A. If you do go under the 1 ct, you can probably get closer to a G color, which many people prefer. But ultimately, its up to you. If you really like it and this diamond "spoke to you", then I say get it and enjoy!

This appears to be a very well cut diamond, if it is verified eyeclean to your standards by James Allen, then no need to increase the clarity - unless you prefer to do so. An I colour will look white, you may see a little warmth from the side in some lights, but this may not be an issue - also you say you have seen this diamond in person and liked it? That is a huge advantage!

I did consider going down to .90 or so b/c of the somewhat drastic price difference but the other part of me really wants to get closer to 1.00.

yes, I viewed the stone and was not able to locate the inclusion on the table despite the employee telling where to look! I think the color worries me a bit - that is if it were compared with a higher grade color stone side-by-side.

It sure looked nice to me though. MAN, this is a nerve wracking purchase! lol I''m the type who researches and shops for months before purchasing and this is getting out of hand!!! HA!

Man, I hear ya there! I did the same thing, but it wasn''t until I actually saw the diamonds that I knew I was getting a good one. If you''ve seen it and it looks great, then that''s all that matters. The rest is just paper, but the diamond is what you''ll always be looking at. (Or what she''ll always be looking at!)

I understand, it is good to research as you are far more likely to choose wisely. Concerning the colour, if it looked good to you, then that is the main thing. An I is still a white diamond, there are many happy I and J owners here. An excellent cut will help any colour grade face up whiter, so it is quite likely your I colour diamond will look whiter and outsparkle any lesser cut diamond with a higher colour. Also I wouldn't worry about direct comparison so much, with an excellent cut like that, all anyone is likely to notice is sparkle! Unless you really aren't sure of the I colour, then you could perhaps see if you could find a well cut H if that would be better for you.
