Opinions on this setup.

I have been doing some looking and have found some setups that i like.

Few questions before starting any advantage to 6 prongs over 4 for round diamonds (GF thinks this is a must have for security)?
Advantages of platinum of 18k white gold? I believe they both have to be re-coated semi frequently right?

I have been looking at Ideal cut VVS2-VS2, G-I .7-.8 stones. I''m assuming the one place I don''t cut corners on is cut quality?

Torn between going with a traditional 6 prong plat basic

or something with a bit more flair 6 prong channel

To go with possibly this Rock I found on pricescope.

Any advice would be great.

Six prongs are definitely more secure than four prongs, with a four prong setting the diamond can pop out if a single prong is pulled back or if the tip snaps off - just as a four leg table will topple if a table leg is kicked out. It is necessary for us to pull back at least three prongs in order to remove a diamond from a six prong setting.

The diamond looks great. For h&a advertised diamonds I like to see hearts images in order to judge the overall cut precision but I don''t think this vendor supplies them. However the diamond appears to be very well cut.

Ditto on the diamond. It looks like a winner!

As far as settings, which would fit her personality better, the elegant simplicity of the solitaire or the more blingy channel set?

With the metal choices, white gold will occasionally need to be replated, while platinum will develop a patina over time and need to be repolished. Platinum is also a little denser and heavier.

I definitly prefer the added bling of some diamonds on the band (but thats my taste). Do you know what your GF likes?

I really like the second setting. I think it adds more bling without being too much. I think that little extra sparkle helps to show off the center stone

Will the fact that the stone is an I color hurt it in a 18k white gold or platinum setting and if I go with the second setting which is .6c TW of H-G colored in the bezel?

I prefer a six-prong setting for myself, but I have heard others say that they think six-prong is ''too much metal''.
In relation to the your selections, I can''t help feeling that the princess diamonds in the band might be well received.
I prefer a plain solitaire myself, but I am yellow gold girl, and also I have been married for some time, and find myself preferring a more ''subdued'' look.
Often, younger girls or ''just engaged!!'' like to share the excitement by having a blingier look.
I would also be inclined to consider a vendor with an upgrade policy.
