Hello All,
I have the following set of stones for a pair of earrings. Could you please comment on anything that is of concern/issue/questionable etc..
THANKS.

1)0.764ct, F, VS1, AGS Ideal 0, 56%T, 62.1% Depth, 43.2%Pav, 34.1 crown, Pointed culet, Negligible/Flour, Faceted 1.7% to 2.7%. Comments - Additional Clouds are not shown. DIM = 5.82 - 5.87 x 3.63 mm

2) 0.760ct, F, VS2, AGS Ideal 0, 56%T, 62.3% Depth, 43.1%Pav, 35.2 crown, Pointed culet, Negligible/Flour. Faceted 1.5% to 2.4%, DIM = 5.82 - 5.84 x 3.63 mm

The negotiated price is $6500.

I am pretty sure you will get at least a few posts suggesting to get bigger stones with lower color, clarity or both (down to whatever still looks "white and clean").

These two are very nice, from what the specs indicate. How come you have crown angles and pavilion % from AGS certs? I'd rather use the original number from the cert tan converting % to numbers or the other way arround.

There was no easy-found F-VS pair of idea cuts in sight, so the one below looked the closest match: same color, probably the same to the eye for clarity if not the same on paper, and hopefully more brilliant according to whatever numbers say. These would be a tad bigger - given weight and a less deep cut than the two you have posted.

Thanks Valeria. Well, I just pulled up the numbers from the diagram on the top right corner of the cert. The "excess" depth is concerning me a bit since I'm losing on the width.

Is there any source that gives a "typical" range of width for a given carat size with an ideal cut? Tried the usual websites but could not find any.

Thanks.

Hm... it would do to find a H&A (Ideal symmetry is what I am looking for) with the depth and weight you want and thin-med girdle. This is it. Variations under 0.1mm are confounded by measurement error anyway. You can average the two numbers for diameter and get the refference you need.

What are your required specs? (minimum diameter, for example, so that stones could be found with some depth variation within the 'H&A'-compatible range...).

Elmo,
Are you referring to these?
0.792 F SI1 BR IDEAL IDEAL H&A $3,350.16 I246711
0.797 F SI1 BR IDEAL IDEAL H&A $3,371.31 I246710

You're right about the 6.00mm which is significantly higher than what I am looking at in the 76 pointers.

The real issue however is convincing my folks about SI1 against a VS1.

Thanks

Maybe show them? and explain that diamond clarity grading is not based on the "eye clean" benchmark and one can shop smart and take advantage of this bias in the diamond grading system? Only diamonds are graded like this...

You might have read this 'line of thouht' somewhere else too. It is common and sometimes abused, but not wrong.

Best of luck

Ok the link is to Zales (

horror) but it was mentioned on another post for a table on its website that has average diameter/carat weight.

Good luck!
