I'm considering ordering this sapphire... I'm attracted to it for many reasons, but for just under $2k for 2.05 cts it sounds like a good deal.

Comments, opinions, questions I should ask the vendor before buying it? I would like medium to medium-dark and as saturated as I can get (within a reasonable budget of 2-3k). I really don't want it to black-out in certain lighting conditions (if at all possible).

Also, thoughts on this next one which is 2.24 cts for $3k?

Thank you kindly in advance!

ultimately a good "deal" is in the eye (or wallet) of the beholder.

I would ask the vendor for treatments and if it shifts colors from indoor lighting (blue outside to purple inside)

But I think you're looking at two very good stones if the shift isn't a deal killer.

The second stone looks slightly more saturated than the first. Have you asked Andrew his opinion on the two sapphires? There is good reason why one costs $1k more than the other even though the carat weight difference is less than 0.25 ct.

They're both heated. But I will take your advice on asking about the colour shifting.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention :)

I see the saturation difference for sure. I guess what I'm most curious about is will stone #1 be a nice saturation in its own right. I do plan on emailing him maybe tmrw... I just wanted to make sure I get advice here on any other questions I can ask him.

The 1st stone has bigger dimensions as well... looked quite impressive for the carat weight so if it doesn't have a window I was prepared to be pretty excited about it! Haha. I'm certainly more drawn to the 2nd stone's colour but we'll see what he has to say.

I'd ask if he can supply pics in different light or against a lighter background. Depending on how you plan to set them, I'd be concerned that they'd both be too dark when mounted, especially #1. They look well cut, & would be from him. Color shift, as advised by Davi, would be my other question. Nice saturation, more so in the 2nd one. You could order them both to see IRL; his return policy is good.

I heard that he doesn't take additional pictures but is more than happy to answer questions.

The 2nd stone isn't treated... I just realized that now after reading the listings again.

It all makes sense now!! E-mailing him now to ask a few more questions. :cheeky:

Thank you for the tips. :appl:

Found out a few things... stone #1 is medium-dark with strong saturation, with a bit of violet. Although it's fairly shallow, Laura informed me it doesn't have a window (which I didn't think it did, just had to ask to be sure of anything sneaky)... :appl: :appl: :appl:

Comes with an AGL cert. Looks like I'm gonna move forward with the purchase... good idea??

I've been admiring both stones myself for awhile now...it's not the size I want but I really love the lines and color. I don't think you can go wrong. Do you have any ideas for a setting?

No harm in seeing it in person to decide if it meets your expectations.

You looking for something smaller or larger? I originally thought I'd want bigger but dimension-wise, the 2.05 ct stone is quite impressive. We'll see how it looks on my hand. I'm really excited to see the colour too. It seems to have this little hint of sleepiness. I hope it sparkles too! Ahhhh I'm so excited. :appl:

I'm wanting to have it set in a white gold halo... not sure if I want diamonds down the shank or not. If I end up keeping the stone, it'll be my centre stone for my eventual engagement ring. I'll let my boyfriend do the whole setting thing since I'm already ruining the surprise for the centre stone.

Agreed. Question: Do you see any reason why it would be so affordable? Here's the specs:

Sapphire Mixed Cut Cushion
Weight: 2.05 cts
Measurements: 8.4x6.7mm, depth 4mm
Clarity: VVS
Origin: Sri Lanka
Enhancements: Heat only
Price: $ 1950.00
Order/Stock No.: sapphire_blue_980
Description: Nice chunky cushion, well saturated medium violet blue. Nice.(AGL lab report included).
Pantone 2736/2727C

Seems to face-up a really nice size for the carat weight... the colour seems beautiful, too. I feel like it's a steal of a deal... or is there something I'm missing here?

I would definitely ask if there are areas that darken to almost black. There appears to be in stone 1 (minimal) but in stone two there is evidence of a bow tie type of darkening (again it's not too bad but still a question to ask).

I would also ask how well the gem(s) hold their colour in all lighting conditions and in which they look the darkest. Very few sapphires look bright and lively in ALL lighting conditions and will darken somewhat. The extent they darken differs considerably.

I have since ordered stone #1. :)

Good point about asking the specifics about colour and different lighting. She did mention that stone #1 is very even and the same colour (no zoning). I asked about colour shift and she said it does shift but as much as you would expect... or something like that. The colour is a medoum-dark violet blue so I'm assuming in some lights it looks more violet and others more blue? There's really only one way to find out if I like it or not... so I ordered it! Heh :D
