In my search for a rich blue, classic navy sapphire color I have the option of having this stone recut. What do you all think of the color? Photos show natural and incandescent lighting.

After the recut the tone may be lighter but the stone will have more brilliance. The stone may have a feather in the side that would be visable from certain lighting --- I''m assuming that isn''t a big deal for a set stone as long as the feather isn''t visible from the top?

Do you know the mm dimensions of the stone? Depending on that, you might lose a little or a lot of carat weight.

The recut should be about 7 mm, with a 1.6 - 2 ct weight. I should have probably clarified that the stone is offered for sale as a recut and I don't own it right now. I'm looking for about a 7mm round for a particular setting idea, so I'm happy about the size.

What are the dimensions now because that will help determine what they will be after recutting. And is the feather in the pavilion or the crown, its location could also determine how the stone is recut or if it is even advisable.

^^
Thanks, I''m just really concerned with color. I love the color but I want to get some second opinions since this would be my first purchase.

I would recommend getting some better/larger photos of the stone in natural diffused lighting, sunlight, and incandescent light with the stone sitting against a neutral background. The fact that it''s a tiny photo and being held between someone''s fingers is cause for misinterpreting the color.

Thanks TL, the pictures are shrunk somewhat because I had to do so to attach them. The lighting/background additional photos tip is really helpful I''ll ask about that.

Hi there.

I don't know if this helps, but here are before and after pics of my stone, which was a recut done by Jeff White.

Here you go.

LS, thanks. Were those photos taken in the same light source? It looks like the stone had a pretty big (at least to my eye) color change after the recut.

The "after" pic was taken outdoors on a cloudy day. I''m not sure about the lighting in the ''before'' pic.

The cutter said it was a very vibrant stone, just poorly cut. The recut made a huge difference, not in colour, but more in performance.

LS, thanks. I love your stone and ring (who doesn''t?)

Aw shucks. Thank you.
Sorry I couldn''t be of more help. Recutting is more of an art than a science. So find a cutter you trust and go with your gut instincts.

Good luck.
