Hey all.

My third post now in search of the perfect diamond for my soon-to-be fiancé's ring!

Would really appreciate some thoughts on this one!

Image and ideal scope attached. It's H colour, VS2 with strong blue fluorescence (and I want it to have fluorescence!)

Dimensions are:

Depth: 61.8
Table: 57
Crown angle: 35.5 (steeper than I'd like but ok)
Pavillion angle: 40.6
Cutler: None
LGF: 75%

I think it may be the one... but more expert opinion is always welcome!

Thanks :)

M

For me, the black inclusion in the center of the table is a deal breaker. That is readily visible. In a VS2, you can find a much better option. To find some choices, I ignored flour...sorry...its a nice feature, but cut and clarity rule to me. I would drop the color.

#1, https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3864666.htm {good balance of size at .818 and inclusions that don't impact performance;$3615}
#2, https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3702243.htm {.768 if your budget allows, this is a great choice; totally clean visual field, beauty, $3446}
#3, https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3836201.htm {.77, $3304, pictured below}
#4, http://www.hpdiamonds.com/en-us/diamonddetail/HPD7895 {$2981, comparable to #1 and less expensive.81, J, VS2; you'll have to request a video}

Between 2 and 3, I'd choose 2. #1 and 4 are equal in cut, 4 is slightly visually cleaner, so the question is color. Can you drop to a J?

Only ones at JA are smaller and not much of a savings. I don't consider these on par with the above.

Your Pick

My #1, more going on from inclusions, but they are tiny and away from the center

My #2

My #3 pick. Inclusions off the center and hard to detect when moving.

I agree with the previous poster, that inclusion was the first thing that stood out to me. I should clarify I'm not an expert but have looked at plenty of those images in my own search over the past few months.

If you want strong fluorescence, could you drop the colour and go up in clarity?

Thanks guys :)

To be honest I hear you on the inclusion, but I've reduced it to 2x magnification and I really can't see it... I know it's not necessarily the same in person but I just figured it was so small as to not really matter. Maybe I'm wrong, being a complete diamond novice!

I think I'd rather drop the clarity rather than going as far as a J... I think I want to set it in pave, so want the main stone to stand out a little from the I stones that are likely to surround it.

And fluorescence is kind of a deal breaker, for sentimental personal reasons I won't bore you with lol.

Will look at those others you've sent salamander!

Inclusions aside... what are your thoughts on the light performance? Is that slight leakage in the centre tolerable?

I did not check flour on my choices, so have a look. Maybe I picked one that had it :)

If that inclusion was white or clear, it would not be as much of an issue -- it is black. That should honestly be a "no" for you too.

Below are better for performance and balance of feature to my mind. These are all from BG's Blue line "inspects each one of these diamonds to make sure that the fluorescence has no negative effect on the diamond's performance whatsoever. Each one of these top performing stones has been Cut to super ideal proportions...Comes with an AGS laboratory grade of "0" ideal for light performance. Must have polish and symmetry in the range of "0" ideal through "1" excellent".

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/d...ags-bl-104094705034#!prettyPhoto[gallery2]/2/ {$3252; color of H, VS2}
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/d...ags-bl-104094705046#!prettyPhoto[gallery2]/0/ {$3132, H, VS1}

emember that the BG, WF and HPD all give you 100% of your money (95% for Blue) toward an upgrade {some variation exist, so give them a read}. JA will require you to upgrade to a stone that is 2x the value.

edited to add...I hope my tone did not come over rudely. It was not my intention.

Not remotely!

And anyway, I can hardly get mad when you're all taking time out of your Sunday to help me make the biggest decision of my life! Haha :D

Personally, I would buy it to inspect in person. The worst case, you can return with no obligation. The appearance is too lovely too ignore.

...presumably there are no dissenting voices on the matter of the inclusion??
