Hello everyone,

I am heavily considering this ring as my engagement ring, however, I am afraid that the diamond looks too small on my finger (I am a size 4 for reference). I was hoping for some honest opinions from people about size of the diamond on my finger and style as well. Any opinions are greatly greatly appreciated. Also, comments on the diamond would be welcomed- it is a 0.31 OEC I/VS2. Thank you so much in advance! :wavey:

Very pretty on your finger! You could also halo it for more presence.

I like it the way it is, I think it looks very elegant

Thank you farmer gal and April Baby for your replies! I really appreciate your comments. I really love this ring and the way it looks, I'm just so worried that if I'm having reservations about the size already it will only get worse the longer I have it. However, I could also end up loving the size and subtlety of it.

This is an mc2 ring- I'm considering going the custom route as well however with a green blue sapphire in the aperta flora setting. I've been searching for the right engagement ring for quite some time now and I find it so difficult to choose the right one, therefore I truly am grateful for your opinions! :appl:

Well, if you love the ring, just ask MC2 to get you a slightly larger center stone! I think it is lovely, but if I were buying from MC2, I'd want a little more significant center stone. They have some beautiful things!

What is your budget if you don't mind me asking :wink2:

Since you're asking for opinions, and you haven't bought it yet, I do think it looks too small on your finger.

I think it depends on your lifestyle. If your super active and don't want to have to remove your ring for activities or if you don't typically wear jewelery, or have budget restraints then I think this could be a perfect choice. It looks beautiful on you, and it's very pretty. However, this is a ring that you will be wearing for a very very long time so I feel that it's important that it be exactly what you want. It's amazing how quickly even a large diamond starts to look small when you wear and look at for awhile, so although, this diamond may seem to be plenty large enough for you now, do you think it will still be large enough in two years, and if not, how will you feel about upgrading for a larger stone? Some people are very sentimental about their erings and some upgrade every couple of years. So, I say it really depends on your personality and lifestyle. And just to throw it out there, I believe that the average diamond engagement ring in the US is under .5ct.

Your good DS! I totally didn't recognize the design. I also need to change my opinion a bit, if I were fortunate enough to own a MC2 piece, I would want it to hold the largest center that I could afford. BTW they designed one of my all time favorite rings.

Ditto, I think a .50 would have much more impact but still be subdued and elegant.

Thank you so much to everyone, I really appreciate the honesty and feedback!!

The difficulty with the ring I posted above, is that it's no longer being created. I definitely agree with what everyone is saying, and I think that this diamond size would probably not last 2 years, and perhaps not even for a few days since I'm already worried  . I think my clear preference is for the sapphire in the aperta flora design- it's about 1.6 cts so there will be a huge difference in presence on my finger!

My budget lies around 6,000- which is harder to work around with mc2. The sapphire falls a bit above that budget.

Christina, the rosebud ring is gorgeous! We saw some similar rings when we visited their workshop in the berkshires, and they were even more stunning in person!

I have to tell you I love MC2. But If I had a 6k budget I would maximize it by going elsewhere. 30 point center for 6k is well, not something I would pay for.

Thanks for the links farmer gal, that sapphire is gorgeous!!

Gypsy- should have mentioned, that ring falls below my 6,000 budget. I also would look somewhere else if that was the price for a 0.3 ct stone!! Thanks for the reply :D

I have never been fortunate enough to see their work in person. :(( Would a .5ct stone make the ring out of budget for you? I can definitely understand wanting an MC2 piece, but if I were spending all that money on the setting I would want to be sure that I would be happy with the size of the stone set in it for a very very long time. Would they be able to re work the setting if you decided to upgrade to a larger diamond for a special anniversary?

I think that ring at .3ct looks very pretty but if you are thinking its small now, you'll think its tiny in a year or so. Its a pretty ring but I wouldn't pay that much for it. You could probably get a .5-.7 centre in a replica setting.

THANK GOODNESS! I was like  but didn't want to say that.

haha Gypsy- I fully agree!

So, now that I've been unsure about the ring posted above, I've been having other thoughts. I love Sally from Heart of Water and her pieces are all also hand done without casting (I believe there's no difference between her methods and mc2's, correct me if I'm wrong!). Opinions on doing a setting somewhat like this, but with maybe diamond pave added to the shank or some sort of diamond aspect integrated into the setting (http://www.etsy.com/listing/21344123/mistral-18k-gold-and-pink-amethyst or maybe http://www.etsy.com/listing/40563535/ara-18k-gold-and-pyrope-garnet), with a natural sapphire:

perhaps like this?

or this?

I have never worked with wild fish gems, so any recommendations for natural, untreated sapphires would be wonderful!

This plan seems to be much much more affordable than mc2 (which is highly preferable!!), but what are people's feelings on workmanship comparatively? I am also fairly influenced by this ring in particular from mc2- http://www.mc2jewels.com/rings/8952.html

As always, thank you so much for opinions, feedback, honesty, etc. You guys are amazing and I honestly don't know how I would ever begin to decide without your presence on this forum :D :D

Those two stones from Wildfish don't look like they have good color at all. I'd look a little more. I have looked at that site many times, but I really want good color and cut, and they just don't have many that fall into that category.

Regardless, though, I want to give you suggestions of other ring makers:
