Yes, we can know....by looking at the stone. :-) Years ago, there were no such tools and people used their eyeballs. Those are the best tools going. :-) This is like parallel parking.....when you've done it enough, you know by sight/judgment when to turn and when to straighten without relying on the 'beeping park assist tool' in the car. Tools are awesome, but they aren't the be-all end up, and they certainly aren't a replacement for one's eyes.

I'm seeing the exact same thing DD's seeing - the dead spot under the table in the video that's consistently there in all 3 lighting conditions. Doesn't mean it's not a good buy for the money and if budget is the main priority, this might be the right pick for her. But OP has said she's new to old cuts, so it's worth pointing to stones that are great makes.

Farmer gal, if you want a stone better than the one at GOG, then the only way you can know that is by either buying an ASET and using it yourself or by sending the stone you buy to one of our appraisers who can do so for you. There have been stones recommended to you in this thread that no one has any way of knowing if they are better or worse than the one you originally posted. And I'd be willing to bet that some of them are worse. We don't even recommend GIA excellent round brilliants on here without at least an idealscope image (because we can't just see with out eyes which are the best ones!), so I think dismissing one stone because of the extra images but recommending stones with nothing...no magnified images, no ASET, no video in varied lighting is a little bit conflicting! That's all I am saying!
 
I agree with Diamonseeker's last post with one caveat: You could also use your eyes to compare the two stones.

Of the rest I think the GOG stone is the best bet.

Inna I think that stone has a very good chance of a nail head. The depth is huge and none of the pictures look directly into the table, making me suspicious.

ETA: My advice is to be patient and wait for something on pre-loved or else save up for a better cut stone on the retail market: GOG surely has some really well cut stones they can show you. Barring that patience or money, give the GOG stone a try because the price is fair and you would have to wait a while or pay more to improve cut noticably.

I've had this one in my watch list for a while. I don't have this kind of combo in my collection yet. I would curious to see what kind of fire this depth/table combo can produce.
 
Dreamer, I agree that it is definitely an advantage when multiple stones can be looked at in person at the same time. I ordered two diamonds at the same time when I bought the first GOG stone, in fact. It does help to see them in all of your own lighting environments. That would be great if fg can order stones that can be returned.
