Dear all,

Given my recent bad luck with the chipped emerald ring on eBay (separate thread), wanted to run this ring by you all before I commit to any type of purchase. Price fair?

Around 3k. Described 2ct emerald set in platinum. I messaged seller and no certificates whatsoever for the emerald or diamond. They are a brick and mortar store in SF so post COVID if the ring is still available I could go and check it out in person, although seller also offered a return policy per listing if I ordered online now, although to be honest I wouldn’t know how to verify the emerald’s treatment without any jewelry stores open right now.

This is my pick.
On eBay, $2,485.
It is a 2 carat Columbian emerald with 2 carats diamonds in Platinum AND it’s a rare Ringdant.
This means the centre “comes off” the ring mount so it can also be worn as a pendant.
The seller, oldtreasures, has over 90,000 feedback for 100% AND I’ve made a number of purchases myself from this seller, even though I’m here in Australia. I bought a diamond tennis bracelet and a diamond ring setting and way before that a diamond heart pendant.

Without any means or ways to verify, I would wait until we are out of quarantine/lock down to purchase. These are not chump change stones and even with a trusted or recommended vendor, I would still verify with a lab memo.

Pretty ring! Their stuff looks kinda sus to me -- lots of "authentic" '30s and '40s rings with big terrible emeralds and rubies in solitaire settings. Did folks actually do that sort of thing back then? I fear they are Frankenstein rings.

@Bron357 Many thanks for taking the time to look for me.

@chrono Wise advice indeed to wait.

@LilAlex I see what you mean! Given my most recent unpleasant eBay experience, I’m a bit “once bitten, twice shy”

@Batgirl76 Really appreciate your honest feedback, thank you!
