Oh Pyramid, it looks gorgeous!

Lovely size too.

Thanks Ellen, yes the size is great.

I am interested in how this stone would look different to say a 34.8 and 40.8 degree combination?

I''m sorry, I missed your initial question on the crown and pavillion angles. Was that there before? lol

Anywho, I can''t say exactly how, if any, it would look different compared to a 34.8/40.8. But I can tell you, your numbers are extremely similar to my diamond, which is exceptionally bright and fiery. The IS looks beautiful. It should seriously be gorgeous.

The numbers are fine.

Oh Pyramid, are you getting a new rock?!?

Thanks Ellen.

It is just that the HCA score is EX VG VG VG and I am wondering if some of the appraisers or experts could tell me how the difference will look and if I would need to pay more to get a 34.8/40.8 combination or is this combination of the same value? Notice also the fire and scintillation is very high on the Gemex so what would I notice different, would there be anything like a shadow under the edge of the table or anything?

I know different people have their sweet spots but what is considered as the very top by the industry, I know AGS000 is an Ideal Cut but does the industry see the proportions as more expensive or less expensive even within that cut?

No, it should only mean it's a great performer.

The HCA can only predict how a stone will perform, based on limited info. What it doesn't/can't know, is how well it's cut, and the minor faceting. It's really only a tool to help tell you whether to proceeed on getting more information on a stone, which you already have. The IS tells you what you really need to know. This is a really well cut stone, and it's going to perform beautifully.

You're stressin too much.

Thanks Ellen

I am really just wondering the difference because there are so many people choosing the 34.8/40.8 type stones over this type and would like to know if the industry sees one as better than another or is it a Pricescope people type thing?

I know about the HCA only being used to see if it is between 1 and 2 and also notice the girdle on this particular diamond is medium so maybe that makes a difference to the HCA score too.

Ofcourse it all comes down also to what is available at the time of purchase too but I would just like to know if one is really seen as better than another in terms of - do jewellers charge more for one spec over another type thing? I am sure appraisers must know if there exists any such thing because they are the ones who value the diamonds independently.

Is this debating between less than a tenth of a degree just stupid as I have seen others write. Do appraisers agree with that?

Someone would be better able to answer your original question than me.

My personal opinion though is that the images look amazing on this stone and the HCA didn''t "throw it out." I wouldn''t read too much into the HCA or the crown/pavillion angles as long as they are within a reasonable range (they are in my opinion) and the IS images looks killer (it does).

The stone is a beauty...

I prefer the low 34.x/40.9-41 combos with long lgf% myself.
They tend more towards directional white light return while maintaining adequate fire and scint.
The higher crowns depending on lgf% tilt towards fire compared to the 34/41''s.
Its subtle but very noticeable too me, some might not notice.
Either combo works well.

could some of the experts chime in:

Are 34/41 cuts less expensive at wholesale level than 34.8/40.8, to the industry?

Is EX VG VG (VG) okay? Gemex is giving very high for Fire and Scintillation so which one is right?

Would I see any shadow or a difference under the table to the naked eye due to the angles combination?

This is an ideal cut but does the industry as a whole have different preferences within that cut, what is seen as the best not just in Pricescope?

would I notice a difference in looking at the stone from the side with the naked eye from a 34.8/40.8 proportion, would it look shallower on top and deeper in the bottom?

Is it silly to debate about less than a degree?

Pyramid, I would make a new thread calling on the experts and ask these in there. I''m just affraid no one will see this that can answer your questions in here.

I will say this, as I can speak from my experience.

My Ering stone (which has numbers much like yours) is an Isee2 branded stone. So they don''t seem to think cutting to these proportions is bad. And I see a lot of their stones with similar numbers.

I also have ACA studs. The angles are 34.6/40.8 and 34.7/40.8. They are no more fiery than my ering. Both are stunning.

But I really would make a new thread.

Pyramid,

I have to think you''d find this thread relevant.

BTW, after a couple of unsuccessful tries to locate it, I did finally do so by noting the author as Garry, and searching on the term: lint.

Thank you to every body who has replied to this thread.

Regular Guy thank you for that link.
