I've been looking for a diamond for an engagement ring and have been dealing with a broker here locally in Toronto.
One of the stone i've been looking at with some interest is this one.

round diamond.
.78 ct, E colour, VS2 clarity
Ideal cut, GIA and GemScan cert - GemScan is probably considered Canada's top certifier.

Here are the full details:
Ct Weight: 0.78
Colour: E
Clarity: VS2
Total Depth: 62.5%
Table: 54%
Crown Angle: 35.5
Crown Height: 16
Pavillion Angle: 40.8
Pavillion Depth: 43
Cutlet: none
Symmetry: VG
Polish: VG
Flouresence: none
Measurements: 5.92x5.85x3.67

I'd like to get some people's opinion on this stone and what you think its roughly worth (in USD is fine)

Thanks.

My opinion on the stone? It scores a 1B on the old AGA cut charts, so it''s likely to be a nice stone. (Don''t have girdle info listed, but in most calculations, the girdle won''t knock the 1B status)

It''s a little outside the range of what I''d prefer personally for depth and crown/pav relationship, but that''s just my preference for tighter numbers. It should be a pretty stone.

I did a search on PS and the closest i could find was this one.

0.78 E VS2 61.7% 55% GIA med-sl thk no vg ex ft 5.92x6.00x3.68 $4644 $3622

I''m getting this stone for just under $3800 CAD which is approx $3350 USD

Damiani Jewelers in Woodbridge have a Sarin machine. They can set it to AGS or GIA parameters and find you an ideal stone without paying for the premium of a AGS or GIA certificate. You can than have it examine by a local lab.

Make sure you post the numbers here and PSers will watch out for those cheating techniques that cutters employ.

This stones scores a 2.7 on HCA. Not a typical stone found here. I can't really say much without visual or IS image of the stone.

This stone is most likely pretty. However, it''s a touch deep which means it will look a little smaller than it''s carat weight. This means you should pay slightly less for it, which it seems you probably are.
