Hi everyone,
I’ve been lurking for a while but this is my first post.

I’m considering this diamond and was wondering what you all thought:

2.23 Round Brilliant
8.48x8.41x5.10mm

Total Depth: 60.4%
Table Width: 58%
Crown Height: 15%
Pavilion Depth: 42%
Girdle Thickness: Medium, Faceted

Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Excellent
Cutlet: None

Clarity: VS2
Graining: Medium
Color: J
Fluorescence: Distinct Blue

Comments: “Excellent Ideal Cut”- The quality of the Cut of this diamond achieves excellence in symmetry and proportions thus obtaining the optimal dispersion of light and brilliance.

This is an EGL cert. The stone is eye clean and faces up a grade whiter due to the fluorescence. I''m particularly interested in what you think of the dimensions. Thoughts? Comments? Thanks so much!

Some people on here love flourescence, but, it supposedly gives a diamond a different look, and can be very milky in the sunlight. (I have only seen ones with "faint" fourescence, and, I think it''s stronger the heavier the flour.

Also, which EGL cert is it? I think they have several different "divisions" so to speak, e.g., USA, Europe, Isreal, etc. And, some are stricter than others.

Generally, it seems people on the board prefer a AGS or GIA cert.

Thanks for the response! I''m pretty sure that it''s EGL USA but I need to confirm that tomorrow. Jennifer from James Allen says that it''s a beautiful diamond so I''m just wondering if it''s worth bringing in for pics, etc. based on the measurements. I''m really going for cut...

The odds are great that the blue fluor. with the J color will make the stone appear a bit more white face up. However, the odds of blue fluor. making the stone appear oily/milky are much lower - this latter effect isn''t common...just a common misconception.

Thanks Gary! Someone told me that blue flourescence this strong will affect the brilliance of the stone. I think they were trying to say that the diamond would have a different type of sparkle i.e. blue sparkle instead of "diamond sparkle". Have you seen this? Also, what do you think of the proportions? Thanks again for your help!

Most of the time fluor., even strong, has little or no effect on a stone''s appearance, however, it does sometimes make the stone appear as you describe in direct sunlight...just depends if this is a positive or negative for you.

Can''t tell you much else about the stone without more info on angles and individual facets, and even then it''s not as important as seeing/comparing it to other stones - with your eyes, not mine.

Good luck.

JA does ideal scope pictures.
Ask for one then post it and we can tell you the cut quality.

As already mentioned find out for sure which EGL it is.

The diamond was graded at EGL Antwerp. I know how everyone feels about this but there is a part of me that wants to take the chance, bring it in, and see if maybe this is the one!

I don't know how to covert the crown and pav percentages to angles which are more accurate. If bringing in this diamond is feasible with the expense you will have to incur, then get an independant appraisal to make sure this diamond checks out and make the sale final only if it does and you like the diamond. Price? ETA - if it is a JA diamond then it might be worth investigating further if they think it is worth it.

Hi Lorelei! It was actually the price and the flourescence that first attracted me to this diamond. It''s priced at $10,584. It was graded in January of 05, I''m not sure if that''s why it is so reasonable. Is it weird that it hasn''t been sold yet? I''ve read enough about James Allen to trust that they wouldn''t knowingly waste my time. Jennifer hasn''t seen it but apparently it''s currently at one of their west coast offices and they can have it sent to their main office for all the testing.

Okay, Jennifer is going to have the stone brought in. Hopefully I''ll have the Sarin report and Idealscope pics tomorrow for anyone who is interested. Thanks again!
