Hi guys,
We found this diamond through the James Allen website. It is certified by IGI. I have read up on IGI and I know the pros and cons of buying an IGI certified diamond instead of a GIA, and I am fine with the IGI. Here are the specs:

1.01 carats
Color: F
Clarity: VS2
Depth: 61.7%
Table: 56.4%
Girdle: 3.9%
Crown: 15%
Pavilion: 42.4%
Culet: 1.6%

The folks at James Allen say that, at the worst (because of loose grading by IGI) it's a color G, with a clarity of SI1...which still makes this stone a great bargain.

Picture of the diamond

I know the picture is kind of poor compared to other images on his site. The folks at James Allen contacted the place where the stone is held and they were rather uncooperative about taking another picture. So this is what I have to go on--all in all, it seems like a really great deal, price is right around $3000 which was our budget (and also a great size/color)! The stone appears eye-clean from the picture...We're ready to buy it, just wanted to see what the PS'ers thought!

Others who are better than me can post on the dimensions of the diamond, etc.

I would slow down, whether it is $3,000 or $30,000, it is alot of money to spend, and not sure why you must make a decision in 24 hrs, you did not explain that. If JA does not have the diamond in hand, then you are losing their ability to look it over, make sure it is eye clean, for example. If JA does not have it in hand, how can they say it is a "G" color?

A deal? Others will have to comment on that, but in life the old saying still applies here..........."You get what you pay for"

Best of luck.

image looks good. No other things to go with. Up to you if you want to make a bet.

I have to agree. If JA is dealing with an uncooperative place, and doesn't have the stone in hand, there is no way of knowing it's eye clean, or if it really is a color and clarity level lower. Personally I couldn't pull the trigger without that information.

The 24 Hours is in reference to the hold time, before they release it. Also as a refresher JA has a 30 day money back gaurantee. :)

If you wanted to order it, get an independant appraisal on the diamond during the return period.

Bosie,

This is one of the diamonds that is not in New York City and I posted about yesterday in another thread. We have estimated the diamond to be "G" in color based on our experience with other IGI diamonds, but will check the diamond carefully and make the client aware if we feel there is more than one grade deviation in color or clarity from what is printed on the IGI report. We also check every IGI diamond for fluorescence, as we''ve seen several diamonds recently listed as "none" that were actually medium to strong. Every diamond sold by JamesAllen will be inspected by one of our gemologists prior to shipment. The issue at hand is whether or not these services are done before or after the commitment to purchase.
