Ok, so I had posted before about how I was nervous about buying this particular princess cut diamond. Here are the specs

.7 ct
70 depth
70.9 table
F color
SI1 clarity
Ideal cut
-also, there was a cloud plotted on the GIA cert
The crown angles etc were not listed

I had it set in this setting http://www.preciousjewelers.com/170ct-channel-style-bridal-p-25013.html

And I also had the jeweler make the channel set diamonds F in color as well to match the center stone.

I took it to an appraiser this past weekend (pricescope recommeded and a wonderful guy) who said that it is eye clean and has a lovely color. I don''t think he got quite the 1.7 cts supposedly set in the two settings, but since they were already set, he couldnt be sure. However, his appraisal and the one that came with the ring were only about 300-400 dollars off, so I guess that isnt too bad, right?

Anyway...Appraised value from him was about 7000.
I paid 3190.

Do you guys think this is a good value? I just ask because I also like this setting http://www.preciousjewelers.com/065ct-vintage-pave-style-bridal-p-25024.html but that would mean starting the search all over and looking for a round brilliant diamond. What are your thoughts on it?

Well I hate to see you have to start all over again, but if you think she will like the second setting better...go for it. Maybe you could find a setting that''s similar but meant for a princess cut.

I wouldn''t worry at all about him not coming up with the 1.7 from already set diamonds. That is almost impossible for him to do, so don''t worry about it. The fact that his appraisal was only 300-400 off means that you were dealing with a pretty reputable jeweler when you purchased it. It sounds like a great deal to me.

As for the setting, is there some reason you don''t like the ring you have? If you already have the ring, I would go with it, unless something is bothering you and it is not "mind clean". I can''t tell you which setting you like better. They are both gorgeous and it just depends on your taste.

I think I speak for everyone when I say we would like to see some pictures!

Honestly, I really don''t have a preference between princess and round or between the two settings. The second setting costs less so maybe I could get a nicer diamond...but then again, I got a really good deal on this one. I''m just so indecisive. I don''t want to send this one back and then hate the next setting. I guess this is the only drawback to internet shopping.

You already have the ring, right? If you love it, then keep it! However, if you do not absolutely love it or you think that she won''t absolutely love it, then it is worth the time to take it back and start over, no matter how good of a deal you got. I didn''t absolutely love the first diamond I got and took it back and got a better one. This is too big of a purchase to have any second thoughts. You should absolutely love what you get. You can find that perfect stone and setting. Its out there, it just might take some time to find it. Let us know what you''re looking for in terms of both stone and setting and budget and we can help you find it.
