Hi everyone. I've been lurking around for some time, and have learned a great deal from everyone. However, I'm still very green when it comes to figuring out what are good paper stats on a rock.

Here's a stone that I'm interested in, and I wanted your thoughts.

Cushion Cut, GIA
Carat: 1.71
Cut: Very Good
Color: H
Clarity: VVS2
Depth %: 68.9%
Table %: 63%
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to very thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.91 x 6.71 x 4.62 mm
Length/width ratio: 1.03

And if you think this stone is worth buying, how much do you think is reasonable? I really appreciate everyone's opinion. Thanks!

Hi Trianglist,

We really need detailed photos and other images in order to help you, if the diamond is with an online vendor can you request them? Or have you seen it in person?

Agreed, pics would help.

Just by the numbers it definitely has potential. And doing a price search I found 2 1.71''s at around 9100-9200. Your Sym and Pol are better, so that would raise the price a bit, and if this is in a retail/local store, it would most likely be more by a few to several hundred dollars.

Thank you everyone for your replies. This diamond is with a large online retailer. I just called and unfortunately they don''t have photos of the diamond. However, they do have a 30 day money back guarantee.

I know that I like the symmetry and polish, as well as the color and clarity - on paper. My concern is with the depth, table and girdle, just because I''m not too familiar with what a good percentage/girdle is, on paper. Are these criteria within the parameters of a nice stone? I know it''s hard to comment without a picture. The price is around $10500.

Thanks again!

Is it a cushion brillant or cushion modified? Do you have a photo of the plot?

For myself, this is how I quickly eliminate cushion choices when searching online. A lot of this is up to personal preferences and tolerances.

1) Is it a cushion brillant? I have yet to see a modified brillant that I like.
2) What does the plot look like? I like 8 pavillion mains.
3) Is it in the desired color range? I like my diamonds white but many like warmth.
4) Is it in the desired clarity range? Eye clean is a must for most but I need it to be mind clean which is VS1 and up for me
5) Does it have the desired length to width ratio? For me, this is under 1.04 as I like square shapes
6) Is the table under 61%?
7) Is the depth over 60% and under 69%?

Unfortunately there aren''t any '' ideal'' parameters you can use when searching for cushions.

Hi! We just bought a cushion (TODAY!) and I had the same problem (they are hard to tell by the numbers) We had it sent to an appraiser first before committing. Apparently that is quite a common practice. Maybe you could do that before you decide?
