Hello everyone!

I have been voraciously reading the threads on this forum for the last few weeks - the amount of information here is spectacular! Before I came here, I had no idea what an ASET was, let alone any of the finer points of diamond grading.

My girlfriend and I recently went into Birk's (Canadian jeweler) and she really liked their Amorique solitaire collection.

The ring she looked at was a Canadian .78ct cushion, G colour, VS2 set in a slim platinum ring. Birk's price was $8575CAD, which I found to be exorbitant.

She has very slim fingers (size 4) so the diamond looked nice on her finger. Her main concern is light performance - she wants something that will sparkle all the time. After that trip I started reading here! :)

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find any comparable Canadian stones. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, but getting a Canadian stone is more of a nice-to-have than a real requirement for me. A local Jeweler offered Canadian stones at an even higher price than Birk's, but never replied when I asked for an ASET image.

What I have found are these:

They fall very nicely into my price range, though I haven't figured out what to do for a setting yet.

I'm interested in your varied opinions on those two diamonds. What I haven't really got the hang of yet are the table and depth percentages. Which one will offer better light performance?

Lastly, how is blue nile generally for the quality of their settings? She wants something very simple and slim.

Thanks!

That is a crazy price. $7635.00 US is nuts. I think the stones you picked are perfect.

I would go with the .87 in this case. Both stones are 5.6mm (you compare spread not weight with cushions), and the higher color is worth it.

It's going to be a lovely stone.

The setting is going to be very important the Amorique is a well designed four prong setting with a lovely profile. Let me see if I can find a nice one for you at Blue Nile that will look similar!

OK none of the settings on Blue Nile are close.

All of them look frankly cheap on Blue Nile with peg heads .

Thanks very much for those setting ideas! Those are very helpful :)

I also just realized that the large images using on bluenile are stock photos, including the hearts/arrows images. To see the actual diamond, you have to open the GCAL report. Neither are perfect/true H&A as described on pricescope. Is it safe to assume that the minor deviations in the facets will have a minimal impact on performance, particularly compared to a non-H&A diamond?

You guys are a wealth of knowledge, thanks for the help!
