DH and I are really needing a new dining table. We''ve looked for something nice but cheap on craigslist, looked online at a few places, in stores, etc. and think we finally found one we both like for a good price. We''d love to get a solid wood Amish table or something high quality but they''re just much than we want to pay right now. So... I want to see what y''all would say the STYLE is of this set. I''m so picky about furniture and style in general and want to make sure I''m not seeing something that isn''t there if that makes sense at all. So what do you think?... modern, traditional, country, etc? Ignore the accessories they''ve pictured with it and just go with the style of the table and chairs. Thanks!

Thanks guys! Still not 100% sure on it... I''m trying to go more for a traditional/antique-y feel for our home eventually. I guess it does go with most stuff we currently have though.

That''s kind of how I felt too! We actually ended up purchasing one tonight... its an antique Duncan Phyfe style with chairs that we got for a steal! We would''ve spent the same amount on an Ikea set probably!

However, I thought the matching hutch was too "country" and didn''t match the look I wanted. We bought the Copley Square china cabinet from Haverty''s, and they look great together. http://www.havertys.com/Product_11442?curIndex=2&resultCount=23


I think it''s the type of table that gains its identity from the pieces you put around it.

That''s so awesome, I''m so excited for you! I don''t recall where you live in Texas, but if you ever go to Houston, check out some of the antiques dealers there.

What style is it and what are you plans for everything?

Guilty Pleasure- That''s a really nice china cabinet! Definitely more my style than the matching one for the table.

Penn- The Duncan Phyfe table is like a pedestal table but it has 3 thin pedestals instead of just one. Its modeled after a Regency style but its not that old... probably a 1950s reproduction. The chairs are kind of a vernacular Napoleon/Queen Anne mix. Obviously not a perfect match to the table but they work for now... they''re MUCH better than what we previously had anyway. I''m going to reupholster the cushions soon hopefully... I''m thinking a silk dupioni

In all the time I''ve spent living in or visiting Houston, I don''t think I''ve ever gone to any antique shops! I might need to make a special trip down!
