Okay, this is the deal, my gf is 27 with a classic contemporary style (Loves to shop at express, simple, yet contemporary and loves shoes and purses, so she loves fashion and style), she really doen't know anything aobut engagement rings but does know she wants a princess cut center stone and a setting with diamonds on the band, thats all she has mentioned...I am looking for something that is simple yet stylish and contemporary but not doing too much, not overdone...I am seriously thinking about this verragio http://www.chicagodiamondcenter.com/?function=detail&num=578&rubrique=Engagement+Rings

I need your opinions, I already got my ACA Princess cut but what do you guys think aobut this setting with my 1.04 ACA Princess cut...I need a critique of the setting with that stone...and based on what I told you about my gf does this ring match...my opinion is that it is a classic look with a smooth contemporary twist that is executed quite nicley, now I don't know how it would look with princess center...also, does it sit too high? I'm looking forward to your comments...thanks!!!

Oh and how do I paste the pic on the message?

Here it is!

I think that setting would look *better* with a princess than a round, with the princess side diamonds.... excellent choice!

The design is lovely and would look very matched with a Princess cut stone. However, from the picture, it looks to be set very high. Is this a Verragio ring? If it is, I''d ask the retailer about the height of the setting.

Thanks for posting that picture chrono...

Looks lovely to me! Congrats on the ACA Princess!

I''d be concerned about the height too, but otherwise is a nice choice for a princess.

Yeah, its a verragio, I''m getting the center stone from whiteflash and that also was the comment that it looked set kinda high...why is this a bad thing and can anything be done about this? If I go with this one, I''m getting it set at WF where my ACA Princess is

I also think it would look better with a princess. But since you asked for opinions... I don''t really care for it much, just not my style, but may be your girlfriends. I''m not a fan of channel set diamonds.

Have you checked out some Vatche rings?

I like this one that I''ve attached.

A few reasons to stay away from very high set stone:
1. Will get knocked about very often - potentially loosening the prongs and/or damaging the diamond.
2. Might accidentally hurt others as you wave your hand about.

You can''t do anything about lowering the stone - it is a standard setting from Verragio.

keep em coming, more opinions...also, what are your favorite settings for princess cut, but it has to have diamonds on the sides...

maybe something like a eternity ring for princess cut...just a side thought, more opinions on this one too, I really can''t decide...

Given the description of his girlfriend, I''d be hesitant to lean towards pave. It''s really more of an antique look. For a contemporary look, I''d go for the Vatche channel set setting.

I prefer the vatche setting. They are both nice however so I''m sure you''ll make the right decision for your gf.

Another gal voting for the Vatche setting, here. The Verragio setting, with the high-set stone, looks less contemporary; more current rings have the stones set more in line with the ring band.

Isn''t there an option to get either the Swan or Sisley ring for a princess with diamonds on the sides?

While pave might be used in antique settings, this Vatche pave, at least in my opinion, is NOT antique looking. Pave is very popular right now and used in many styles. That being said, antique styles are also very popular/trendy right now and if his girlfriend is up to date in her style, she might actually like the look. Anyway, based on his description, I probably wouldn''t go for the antique look either, but I don''t think this Vatche fits that bill.

Anyway, if channel set is what you want AJ, then I''d suggest this Vatche...

I LOVE the Verragio! I''m a sucker for the unobstructed pavilion view. You really get to enjoy the whole diamond. And as for the height, Verragio are designed with the extra structure and strength to withstand any durability issues. See the double wire on the prongs? It also protects the sides with the "cathedral" nature of the band. And for the folks that need a flush fitting band, much more likely with the Verragio design.

The ring is beautiful, however it would depend on your gf. I know my gf hits her hands on everything, not on purpose. Therefore I am looking for a lower center setting for the diamond. Just a thought.

Personally, my absolute favorite setting for a princess is the Ritani Endless Love without the halo. But, if you''re looking to go another route, I think a princess flanked by tapered baguettes would be lovely too!

Great comments and suggestions everyone, you guys have really given me losts to think about and consider while narrowing everything down...this is an awesome community of people...a round of applause for you all

Thanks!

I think the Vache setting that jayrene posted is the nicest and most contemporary. Goes with anything! I''d say I liked the last one with baguettes best but she doesn''t sound like a classic style so I''d go with that last Vache. Cant go wrong with that one! The Veraggio seems to frou-frou to me, and sits up WAY to high to be practical, but that''s just my opinion.

Hey gang, is it just me or do the Vatche settings look sort of boxy or bulky, as opposed at sleek and flowing (Which I favor), seems like lots of metal, am I missing something, do they look this way in person....I will go view a few tomorrow...

mmmmm, love this one! the prongs, the pave''d fishtail bar detail, the band, everything. lot''s of nice details but all works together nicely. though, i do still like the verragio. might be a good idea to see these in person if possible, i had my eye on a verragio three stone and when i tried it on it didn''t wow me as i thought it would from the pics. haven''t seen a vatche in person......

Looked around that site you posted and THIS would be my pick. I am also your girlfriend''s age and a purse freak, lol. However, when it comes to rings my style is more antique than modern so take that into account.

I love the Verragio Lumino settings and the way the show the entire diamond. Just stunning

I like the flow of the setting, as well.

I think that the original ring posted would look better with a princess cut!

okay, since i don''t know how to post a link to something, here are some settings you should look at. i personally love them and I love a more contemporary look.

james allen''s website. Danhov Meno collection. Pave'' stones on band. Many styles to choose from. I''m choosing the ME 25 (i think that''s it) with an EC stone.

Take a look and let me know if you like anything from that collection!

Okay, this question is for all my ladies....from a woman''s perspective, is it bad to propose with a simple solitaire even though you know she doesn''t want that and then take her to find whatever setting her heart desires (of course with a limit...hehe)

What I was thinking was to set this diamond http://www.whiteflash.com/aca_princess/A-Cut-Above-Princess-cut-diamond-336515.htm , in the WF Tiffany Style for Princess Cut then let her pick out her actual ring...I want to make it romantic and memorable but I would much rather her have something she absolutely adores...any thoughts on this ides?

Oh, and my mom says she thinks she (my gf) would love the Verragio and her mother (future mother-in-law) is going to check it out today and let me know her thoughts...but what are your thoughts on a simple solitaire and then going ring shopping, and then maybe even making a trip out of it...we live in Louisville (well, I''m relocating there next week, she is already there) and theres not a lot of options but Chicago is 4 hours away, or we can even go to DC where we met and go to Georgetown to ring shop or maybe NYC where she absolutely loves 5th Ave...just some random thoughts...my concern is not putting enough thought into this and not giving her that ultimate engagment surprise expereince that all women have dreamed about...HELP!

most verragio settings are pretty high and I don''t know what really could be done about that... but they''re amongst my favorites! I''m very partial to that V look.

:D haha might knock an eye out!!

Some prefer higher stones because it makes the stone look bigger both relative to the finger and also because it''s on a pedistal of sorts. I am of the lower, more practical camp myself... but I still like the verragio. Maybe you could get whiteflash to custom make you one that is very similar but with only ONE V so the stone can be set lower?
