Opinions on my marquise setting

I have a 1.27ct marquise (~1.7 ratio, so it's a bit chubby) in a solitaire cathedral setting. My husband proposed with the ring about four years ago, and for all of those years, I have managed to skew the head, and it's always a bit off-kilter. I don't think that I bang it on anything, but even after having it at the jeweler to straighten it, it sits crooked. The ring is 14K white gold, with a six-prong platinum head.

Is there another setting that would be a little less susceptible to knocks? I love my solitaire, but hate that I can't ever keep it totally upright.

Thank you.

How high does the head sit? Can you please post a picture of the ring (side view to show the profile)? Having both the stone sit lower in the basket and the basket itself sit lower will minimize knocking it about.

Oh, and yeah, my wedding band is a simple seven-diamond channel-set band, and I have OCD, so it has to sit flush against my engagement ring.

You could set it east/west.

It sounds like you may need to have your ring re-imagined Mrs Canuck. I know one of the many challenges we face up here in the Great White North is diamonds getting caught on gloves, in pockets etc- especially when we hit the blissful -20's. Marquise shapes seems to be making a bit of a come-back.

There are numerous fine jewellers here in Canada listed at http://www.americangemsociety.org/canada-jewelers who can guide you through the custom-design process.

Stay warm!

It's a beautiful set and a very pretty chubby marquise! It does seem like it's set on the high side. Maybe try on other lower settings to make sure they would sit flush with your band.
