Hi all,

I need an opinion on a diamond that we are looking at. The last several months we have been trying to find a new setting for an engagement ring upgrade. We finally settled on an A Jaffe setting, which was incredibly difficult to find - but located it at a little local jeweler - and actually got a great price. We now are ready to purchase the diamond - so I went back to lurking these past few months. We are looking for a really great cut stone in the 1.5 carat range. With all the wonderful advice that I''ve read here, I am convinced that the cut is really the most important thing to us - followed by clarity & color. I currently have an "H" color so we were looking in that range and went as low as a "J".

This stone is a "J", but it has stong fluorescence - from what I''ve read this could be very good - and of course for pricing it seems to be great. We were trying to stay around $10,000 or less and so the price is great too.(I''ll maybe just have to upgrade my wedding band right away too!

) What do you think??

Thanks!

I think it could be an excellent choice!! Just check that the very thin part of the girdle isn''t a durability issue ( unlikely) and also that the very strong fluorescence doesn''t make the diamond look cloudy ( also unlikely), then you could be set!!

I did ask about a milky or oily appearance and they said that it just looks bright white. I also asked about another stone as an alternative, and she stated that they would probably perfom comparatively to the eye - and the price was $2,500 more. Do you think that could be true?

Here is the other stone:

Quite possibly. It depends on whether you would rather pay more and have the pedigree of the ACA or save a bit and get the first one.
