My girlfriiend is petite and I''m concerned that if the diamond is too big it''ll look gaudy on her hand. I the past she''s expressed that she prefferred larger than smaller. We looked at 1.25cc, 1.5cc and 1.75cc sizes in numerous local stores. She liked the largest size and I thought the middle looked about right.

She has a 4.5 ring size. I''ve found a beautiful diamond that is 1.37cc. I''m worried it may be too small. Then again, since the cut is ideal and the diamond scored 1.2 on HCA, I''m thinking it''ll look bigger than it actually is. Thoughts on the right size for her finger appreciated! Thanks - Bernie

If she''s expressed her preference for something like the 1.75, then anything smaller will be a disappointment. It doesn''t matter what size you think is right (as long as you can easily afford the larger size); she''s the one who will be looking down at it on her hand for the rest of her life.

Yeah, this is probably right!

I''m petite with a ring size of 4.75 and found that a .80 looked perfect on me but would be too small for many (lol!) so it REALLY comes down to personal opinion and comfort level, not just what looks right to other people. Clearly your girlfriend would want a diamond slightly larger.

Ditto Hest and MC. My finger size is 4.5 but I'm more comfortable wearing rings around 1 carat. Others here have smaller finger sizes (2.5 and 3) but enjoy their 2 to 3 carat stones. If she wants size, I'd get a size as large as my budget will allow.

I agree with what has been said. It depends on personal opinion and comfort level. However, the main thing is buy what you can afford. Many of us here may want/prefer a 2ct or 3 ct but are we going to get it if we can''t afford it? NOPE! With that said, if you can afford a 1.75 and your gf wants around that size, I''d go with a 1.75.

Get the girl what she wants! LOL

This a matter of personal taste. Some women like bolder jewelry, others like more delicate. I'm in the first camp and my SO always says my rings are too bold for his taste. But he is not the one wearing them. If your gf expressed a preference, the price is within your budget and there are no safety issues (I take the subway every day and can't wear anything too expensive looking), go with the size she loves.

I also agree with what everyone has said. It''s all about personal preference, what your budget is, and most of all what your GF would like because she''ll be the one wearing it. You should go with what she likes and will be comfortable wearing while staying within your budget.

Don''t be worried about it looking too big. I think the sizes you''re looking at would look great on her finger. I''m also petite (finger size is 3.5) and the stone my BF bought for my ering is 1.55 cts.

Why dont you take her to try it on but dont tell her what size it is and see if she cares. I''d go to the shop first and line up some stones/rings for her to try on and tell the SA not to discuss the carat weight with her. Then let her try them on and see if she gravitates towards the better cut, smaller stone. IMO, a 1.37 stone will look pretty big on such a tiny finger...just my two cents though...

Budget and the girl''s preference are what need to be considered IMO. My husband LOVES to remind me that he rarely sees diamonds as big as mine (I know for a fact he doesn''t pay much attention because I see much bigger around here ALL the time). I wear a 4.5-4.75 and my diamond is a 1.59ct and I would LOVE it to be MUCH MUCH bigger. If your girl wants a 1.75 and you can afford it I know it would make her very happy!!!!!!!!!
