Hi everyone, I''m a bit of a lurker but I want to thank all of you for contributing to such an amazing site. I''ve learned so much. Anyway, I''m on the hunt for an asscher/square emerald and I have two that I would love your opinions on, especially the resident expert, Storm. :) Is either one a keeper or should I keep looking? TIA!

Close too 6 of one half dozen of the other.*
Its almost certain they were cut by the same cutter.
Does the G symmetry effect the face up appearance? (doesn't look like it in the pic but ask for an in person eval.)

What is the crown height of both?
What does the pricing look like?
Which does the vendor prefer?

I think you can stop your hunt and settle on the best of these 2 as it would be kicken and if the price is in line.*

*My opinion :}

Storm, thank you so much for your response. It''s very important to me that I get a "kicken" stone. :) Here are the answers to your questions:

1. I asked about the crown height and the dealer said he didn''t know, he only has crown heights for rounds.
2. The VS1 is $19,900 and the VS2 is $18,800 - both fit our budget.
3. I did ask the dealer about the G symmetry on the VS1 and the dealer said it had no effect and he actually prefers the VS1 because he said there is a very slight visible inclusion on the VS2.

Should I go for the VS1? The one thing I''m a little unsure about on the VS1 are the measurements. I really want a square stone and I''m not sure if the 6.97 x 6.84 will make the stone appear not quite square. Can you even tell the difference between a perfectly square stone (with measurements of say 6.97 x. 6.97) and a stone with the measurements of the VS1. I know it would be minimal but is it something I should worry about? Also, in your opinion, are the cut corners deep enough on both of these? Again, thanks for the help!

go with the vs1 then.

Unless the cutter really cheated the crown height should be ok, a picture from the side if possible would help.

The difference is only .13mm on an almost 7mm stone its not eye visible.

Storm, thanks for the info, the VS1 it is.

I know you have already decided, and I admittedly don't know much about this cut. I just wanted to say that I think the stone on the left looks slightly larger and my eyes were naturally drawn to it. For some reason I find it more appealing but don't know exactly why.

g-g - thank you for your response. I "think" I have decided but that''s why I posted because I really am torn and would love to hear other reactions. I felt exactly like you did when I saw the photos, both stones are so similar but for some reason I was just drawn to the one on the left, which is the VS1. I think I would be happy with either but right now I''m leaning toward the VS1. Thanks again for the imput.

I''m by no means an expert in asschers - but I also was drawn to the one on the left. That''s the one I like the best, but they both are beautiful.

Which vendor are these stones from?

Goobear, thanks for weighing in. The stones are both from a dealer in NY. Let me know if you would like his contact information.

Another vote for the one on the left. It draws my eyes much more than the other.

LOL! I am going against popular opinion as I prefer the one on the right!

Me three, the right one just seems more ommmmphy to me

Based on the pics I prefer the stone on the right. The steps seem more crisp with very defined windmills. Of course seeing both in person would be best.

I perfer the one on the right...
