What do any of you think of this setting?

Setting @ DCD

I''m getting a price quote from a local jeweler tomorrow. I have a feeling that the price they''re going to give me is much higher than the price listed on DCD, because the local jeweler tried to talk me out of buying platinum due to a "huge price difference." I didn''t tell the person helping me that I saw this setting online at this price, and I''m glad I didn''t, because she rambled on for a full minute explaining how anything I buy online will have a "triple key markup."

And that''s where she lost me

I really like the profile. How large of a diamond would you be putting into it? The prongs are so big that I would be afraid they might overwhelm a smaller diamond.

Why not just go with DCD's setting? Are there aspects you wish to change?

my center stone is a .82 ct round.

I'm also concerned about the 'chunkiness' of the prongs...I love the look, but couldn't spring for a bigger diamond (this was over my budget as is...the things PS does to you

). So, I'm trying to see what can be done. Melissa at Winfield's mentioned this Vatche setting (link), which is really close to what I like, except it's missing the side melee (is that the right term?)

ach, link doesn''t work...if you''re interested, click on the link, and then solitaires under platinum. The ring is the ''pave x-pring with round center.''

I agree. I do not care for the heavy prongs. The ring seems "delicate" so the prongs clash. Why would you go custom if DCD has what you want for what I think is a very good price?

Well...it is virtually perfect, except for the prong issue. And I agree on the price...I just sent an email to DCD to inquire about the prongs and if there''s any way to make them a bit smaller. Worth a shot, I suppose.

If they can make the prongs more delicate, that would be great. Otherwise I say those prongs defeat the design of the ring. They are way too heavy.

I''m with everyone else on the prongs. way too much and would cover too much stone IMO.

Ask also what head they are going to use - this one is designed for either 3/4 or 1 ct and your stone is in between.

What about not "shaving" but ask to make top parts Split/ 8-prong/fishtail?

I found this setting, and it also reminds me of the look you''re after...

Gorgeous setting...but my gal can''t do high settings because she''s a nurse. Thanks to everyone who looked :) I''m talking to DCD about what they can and cannot do to the prongs without destroying the look of the inlay/metalwork in the prongs. If anyone''s interested, I post an update/some pics once I get them. And, I''m sure I''ll be too excited not to post in ''Show Me the Ring,'' since I haven''t really told anyone I know that I''m looking for a ring

Stonesthrow...referring to your profile pic...did you take that pic? And if so, please tell me how you got such a great detailed shot! I have been trying to get one of mine showing all the arrows & stuff & can''t really manage to get the right shot.
