Hi. I am considering buying a 1.11 carat round brilliant, D color,
VVS2. Measurements: 6.63-6.68x4.13 mm.
Depth percentage: 62.1%
Table diameter percentage: 55%
Crown angle: 34.8
Pavilion depth: 42.9%
Polish: excellent
Symmetry: excellent

I am a layperson, not a diamond expert. I am wondering if there are issues with the depth percentage. I have done a little reading and I know that if the depth percentage and the table percentage ratio are not right, then there may be a problem. Is there then an issue with light dispersal?

The retail price for this diamond is $18,100.

Any advice helpful. Thanks!

I can't really comment on the make. The proportions you listed look good, but you will need to post the pavillion angle for informed opinions.

The price is quite high, tho. For comparison purposes, Nice Ice has a Super Ideal, Hearts and Arrows available:

1.154 carat, D, VVS1. Scores 0.7, Ex/Ex/Ex/Ex on the HCA. Cash price is $12,715.

Nice Ice also has a 1.05 carat, D, IF available for $16,420 cash price.

Clarity costs money. Each step up in clarity, especially in a D, Ideal, adds to the value of the diamond and the price.

Edited to add: Regarding your Cut Question. Ideally, you want the table between 53 and 58%. Light refraction will be a direct result of the crown and pavillion angles complimenting each other properly. There is a range of complimentary angles, combined with minor facets alignments that will optimize how the diamond performs. The example I listed from Nice Ice has excellent proportions and angles.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I wish I knew the pavilion angle. This information
came from the GIA report and they don't include pavilion angles; thus, I couldn't use the cut adviser on this website to figure out if the diamond's any good. Is there any way to figure out the pavilion angle from the other figures I've given?

You havn't mentioned the flour.on that stone?
From the numbers it looks like a nice stone.
Where did you get the cr. angles?or pavilion depth? They are not specified on any of the G.I.A certs.

about the price ,it is very high for that kind of stone!!!
it's about $5000.00-7500.00 over priced

For myself, personally, it wouldn't matter whether the stone performed well or not. Just take a look at the price difference between the D, VVS2 stone you posted and the Nice Ice D, VVS1. Clarity costs money. VVS1 costs more than VVS2. For $5400, I, myself, would just move on.

If you really want to pursue the stone you posted, you might ask the Vendor for the missing information. It's odd that you would get a crown angle and no %, while you got a pavillion % with no angle measurement.

From what you have listed the stone could be a cut class 1 stone. Need girdle thickness. You can figure the crown height as approx. 15.5%. Iam not to worried about the pavilion angle. If the table size, crown height, crown angle, pavilion depth, girdle thickness and the full depth are all within class 1 then the pavilion angle is fine. You say that 18000 is the retail price, is that what they are asking or their estimate of. To me it sounds fair for retail replacement value on a appraisal, but high if that is what it is being offered for sale to you for.

Thanks so much, everyone, for these opinions. The girdle thickness is thin to medium faceted. Yes, the stone is overpriced because it's a Tiffany's (retail price)--I know they mark up their prices for the brand name. Their diamond certificate gives certain information but not others (no pavilion angle). But do you think the light refraction will be OK given the rather high depth percentage? Mr. Skinner, you mentioned that it was fine to not know the pavilion angle. Do you think the stone is decent? I know it's overpriced. Thanks in advance for all the informative posts!
